The ref thanking TNA for the exposure made me think of how sketchy companies in other industries ask people to work with them for free (or close to) and say "It'll be great exposure!" as though that makes up for it.

Yeah I read the exact same thing from that.

Same. Never work for exposure. Unless exposure comes in the form of currency, all you're doing is wasting your time.

If they actually did get a ref to work "for exposure" that seems baffling to me. Since when did refereeing a match give you your big break? I mean, it worked for Earl Hebner and Little Naitch, but they're very much the exceptions.

Especially since the main point of a ref is to unnoticeable

If you are an identifiable ref you are already doing it wrong

Bryce Remsburg is the exception and that is more because he reffed every indie event on the East Coast for like ten years

Bryce is way more than a ref these days. Presenter, comedian, improv, commentator. if it requires standing upright and talking into a mic, Bryce can do it.

Bryce made himself very noticeable in many matches.

I wonder if TNA took care of any travel and lodging when they do tapings. Not comping the refs seems super sketch since they're generally on the low end of the payscale.

With the visa issues we're hearing about with Spud, I wouldn't trust TNA to take care of anything.

At the very least, they did it with Shane Sewell and Jackson James (who was secretly/not secretly Eric Bischoff's son).

I only remember Shane Sewell, who was not good. Slick never wrestled, but was a huge character. He was pretty good at reffing if I remember correctly. Their head ref before Hebner, however, was not. Hebner of course is a flaming garbage heap that only bumps real good.
