Could anyone recommend me some really heavy punk that sits on the border between hard punk and metal? Anything with a great drummer or some rhythmic complexity is a plus.

Does this work? I found this on The Black Market a few months ago and it was labeled as "punk". It's a Tokyo based punk band, and if it was on a metal blog then it's probably considered metal as well!

Not technically metal, but Converge's The Dusk in Us is sitting pretty at number one. Nightmare Logic and Infrared Horizon are in a distant fight for second.

I always have a hard time remembering what actually came out this year vs what I listened to for the first time that actually came out previously. That said, Havukruunu, Chelsea Wolfe, Leprous, Akercocke, Dyscarnate, the Babymetal live album, Sunless, Immolation, Caligula's Horse and Converge is my current unordered top 10 I think.

I've been way behind on new releases this year (I won't even hit 100 for the first time since like high school) and this will definitely change when I relisten to everything next month, but my current metal top 10:

Beheaded - Beast Incarnate
Apostate Viaticum - Before the Gates of Gomorrah
John Frum - A Stirring in the Noos
Black Anvil - As Was
Power Trip - Nightmare Logic
Pallbearer - Heartless
Temple of Void - Lords of Death
Converge - The Dusk in Us
Cormorant - Diaspora
Pyrrhon - What Passes for Survival

Chelsea Wolfe and Ingurgitating Oblivion are right on the outside.

I have two questions for you guys. First, how do you keep track of new metal releases? It always seems you all have listened to every album that came out over the past year. My method is to just stumble across announcements in my FB feed. I know I'm missing out on a lot of stuff.

Second, what's your method for keeping track of what you've listened to and your opinion of it? Do you organize it in some way or just rely on memory?

Pretty much this but sometimes I get really bored and click on "related artists" via spotify and just start a dumb journey that often leads to really boring death metal but occasionally I'll find cool things.

Also:
Looking up the bandcamp of record labels of bands I really and seeing who else they've signed that's cool. So far the only one this actually paid off on has been I, Voidhanger

Some other blogs like No Clean Singing, ToiletOvHell, MetalInjection, or even MetalSucks if I'm super bored.

I keep having this idea floating around my head for a thread about "your favorite albums of <year> as of now": go 5 or 10 years back and pick out a retrospective AotY that you still like and listen to from that year. This would be different from AotY from <current year> because (a) your musical taste might have changed, and (b) you might have discovered an album in a band's back catalog.
