I'm looking for a song...
EDIT: Looks like I remembered it on my own. For anyone curious (I hate when people post a question, figure out the answer on their own, then don't bother to mention it when they update their post for anyone else that might be reading) the song was: From Then Till Now by Killah Priest and it wasn't The Wire soundtrack on heard it on, it was in the movie Ghost Dog. -Blackadder- fucked around with this message at 00:26 on Oct 29, 2017 |

Kangra posted:Runaway by Del Shannon (specifically the electric keyboard solo around a minute in). The distinct solo was performed by Max Crook on something he referred to as a Musitron. It's a modified clavioline, which was a forerunner of the Mellotron. Though it made Runaway a big hit, from what I've heard from Shannon, he really didn't use it again. Discogs credits Crook on the album "Little Town Flirt." It's been a long, long time since I listened to it, but don't remember anything near the Runaway sound on that album. "Hat's Off to Larry" kinda has a bit of it. Even the direct follow-up to Runaway, "Keep Searchin'" doesn't go for that sound.

Not to derail but one of my favorite quirky 80s indie bands, Scruffy the Cat, did a great cover of "Runaway": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bof8m1ZeFyw (for some reason, there's no YouTube of their studio version, it's on the Moons of Jupiter album") Their original songs are just pure aural candy too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtg7aXZcG8M e: and I just now discovered that, of all bands, Letters to Cleo covered that song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa4xdd-8EXU precision fucked around with this message at 11:53 on Nov 6, 2017 |

Fingertips posted:Alright so I was working on the computer and a nostalgic song popped into my head. I can only remember the very first part of it. It has a high-reverb piano playing a single chord over and over really quickly, which then shifts chords, keeping the same fast playing. It is very relaxing not entirely electronic but definatly not live music. I called my brother up and he seems to think that it is named Lotus or something. I had another song I was trying to find. It was from the early 90s or late 80s. For some reason I think it was Phil Collins, but I may be wrong and I certainly can't find it among his work. The only concrete thing I can remember is that the music video had the singer on a grassy mountain-top/hill singing.

Any chance of it being Alive and Kicking by Simple Minds? It's the whole band, and not quite a mountain-top, however. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljIQo1OHkTI I'm trying to figure out the name of a song that's being used in a commercial recently, and I've heard used in movies/TV before but never really paid attention to the lyrics. The song is very toe-tapping and bouncy. Probably from the 1970s. I thought I heard the words 'handle' and maybe rhymed with 'candle'. The first few notes (tonally) roughly match 'Bang a Gong'. The commercial it's in is for some crap food chain restaurant, I think, maybe selling baked potatoes? I heard it from another room but the song under it was immediately recognizable.

I have this crystal clear picture in my head I wish I could share with you. I had originally thought I found it with River of Dreams by Billy Joel, but the music video does not match. But it had the same type of sound. Very upbeat and inspirational.

I sincerely doubt it's No Rain, but it was the first thing I could think of with a grassy hill. Definitely not a Phil Collins/Billy Joel vibe. Or Queen's Breakthru, which isn't exactly a hill, but the band on a train going through the countryside? The Billy Joel video is really reminding me of something else, but I can't think of it. (After a few minutes I've realized it was also Billy Joel. The beat of the chorus is similar to My Life.)

Looking for a song with lyrics something like, "this is the house I could see myself dying in" and "all I want are a couple of cool friends" I heard it in an American Eagle store, which always has a lot of indie-electro stuff on. It actually sounded a lot like an LCD Soundsystem song, but I'm *pretty sure* it wasn't. Any help would be great!

A song that quotes part of the melody of Ring Around the Rosie, and none of the words. Might be sung on nonsense syllables, might not.
