But math is math, and a large swing against you in overall margins can lead to an outsize number of seat losses because those safe seats were carved up. Yeah gerrymandering is kind of a big bet on stable voting preference at large. If you spread the turds real thin so that there's 20 seats you're holding by 5 or less, then a 6, 7 point wave just flips them all at once and you are eating curb for dinner.
