There's also a UI change: Anytime the game has to describe something vaguely vulgar (such as what you say when seducing someone) it will be censored.

"Oh my god."

This also applies to the otherwise graphic descriptions of combat.

my favorite is still

"[Your Church.]"

I've tried to get into LCS multiple times but every time I get bored trying to recruit people, it's just such a slog finding recruits, grinding persuasion/seduction on every member and trying to find recruits with decent stats. Especially since I have no real sense of what decent stats are. Is 10 decent or amazing? Someone with 10 disguise and 10 stealth seems to be pretty much invisible but a person with 10 in tailoring still has plenty of things they can't make. Finally it seems like it's really hard to specialise people, most roles seem to need decent stats all around. If I'm making a group of sneaky knife or pistol users they'll need; high agility for stealth and combat, high charisma for disguise and to recruit replacements, one of them will need high intelligence for security and maybe computers, high heart/low wisdom is useful if they get captured and decent health is important if they want to survive more than 1 round in combat. So for this theoretical squad I'd need at least one recruit with good stats in everything but strength, and the rest everything but strength and intelligence.

How do people handle this, are you guys just really patient or do you just throw sweatshop workers into the meatgrinder and let levels take care of low stats?

Abuse teaching, basically. If you have someone with good skills send them to education classes, then when they have like 4 points in teaching have them teach their skills to other members. Pretty soon every member will be good at everything.

So I'm considering adding a savescum command to doomrl-server, and I wanted to bounce the design off this thread.

- When you restore a game (which destroys the save file), a backup is made, identified by the name of the game and the date at which it was saved. There's a limit on the number of backups stored (10?) and the oldest ones are pruned.
- If you have any backups, the savescum <name> <date> command becomes available.
- Using that command restores the game (as if with the play command). Any game in progress with that name is overwritten (or perhaps you just aren't allowed to use it in that case). The restored game is flagged as savescummed.
- Savescummed games are still recorded, but appear on a separate leaderboard and do not contribute towards in-game unlocks (i.e. they are not allowed to modify player.wad). An additional line is written to the mortem (and possibly to the ttyrec?) noting that the game was savescummed.

You still need to manually save and exit to create a restore point, since DoomRL doesn't have any sort of mid-game autosave, but this opens the door to people experimenting with weird and/or unreasonably difficult play without cluttering up the main scoreboard.

ADOM 3.0 out for the prerelease people. Has a new ending a shitload of new artifacts and maps apparently. Interested to see how different the game is with that much balance-teetering stuff thrown in at once. Also want to see how they handled the new ending from how they originally planned it - if it's the same, then I'm going to be dumb and proud that I accidentally recreated it for the 'ending' of my first game in the setting.

I tried that one. Turns out the answer was to set "Number of uses of command to hide quick hint" to 0.

Otherwise you have to pray 10 times before it stops telling you to pray anytime you don't have max PP.

I suggest asking in the thread for a newbie build. I'm phone posting or I would link it. 90% of the newbie barrier is coming up with a decent build that allows you to not die immediately, and a new player has no way of knowing what is effective and useful.
