I have a situation where I would like to protect a windows SMB share from something like cryptolocker. Users on the network obviously have read access to the share but I wanted to have writes/modify protection with a username and password. I just can't tell how this can be accomplished. Maybe it can't.

Any help is appreciated.

When you access a share without logging in, isn't just using the guest account (or your user account in a domain)? So all you should have to do is set the permissions so that the guest account can't modify anything in the folder? Not 100% sure though, since I'm not that knowledgeable about Windows.

I also don't know if the file sharing interface in the home version of windows will somehow interfere with these settings.
