Huh. I've wondered that for a while. Surely you miss when you're trying to get the RH controller back in and have to fumble around for a while? Unless you play all the time in which case I guess you'd get used to it.

I'm tempted, at least it's adjustable.
The magnetically attached ones look more comfortable to snap the controllers on though.
I'd be interested in seeing if anyone comes up with limited articulation in the front grip to stimulate pump action shotguns.
Given Vive knuckles are on the horizon I'd not spend that much on something that wouldn't be compatible with them.
That said, I can't see what attachment points you could have on the knuckles.

I managed to pick up a Rift yesterday for $350 from best buy even though the deal was supposed to be online/Friday only, and played rec room and bigscreen with a buddy all last evening. The touch controllers are actually significantly better than the vive wands, and the headset was surprisingly overall more comfortable than my friend's Vive. I will need to buy a third sensor and some prescription inserts ASAP, though. Even with two sensors the tracking and room-scale are perfect... except for maybe one immersion-breaking tracking loss every 5 minutes or so, as I spin around and crouch for paintball or something.

When I get a third camera, does anyone have any suggestions for a USB extension cord and mounts that will work well with it? I heard some can cause problems.

Is anyone in the "Orbus VR" beta? It looks really tempting to me, but I might spend the money on Gorn and Onward instead.

The stand alone sensors you can purchase actually come with a 15' extension cable included in the box (well, technically its separately packaged, but included with the purchase and shipped with it i mean). If you need something longer than that though, monoprice, or cable matters active extensions should be good. The 3rd sensor doesn't need to be in a usb 3.0, so theres more leeway in extending it.

EDIT: Oh, orbus uh.... well I guess it depends how far things have come, but I played 2 previous open beta tests and I would more accurately call them alpha. It was super janky and not something I would come close to spending money on yet. I could be wrong though, its been months since the last test I tried so it maybe be really overhauled, I just didn't like the way it handled magic and movement and stuff, it was all very clunky.

I don't know about that. I don't have very much time to play and the cost of a stock accessory isn't discouraging my interest in them. My biggest concerns are having to fiddle with it to make different games recognize the LH controller location as foregrip, pump/lever actions, quickly swapping an item between hands or doing weird two handed gestures, using two handed melee weapons, and just plain old getting the controllers in/out without wasting mental bandwidth thinking about it.

I am getting a camera tripod for my third sensor, this loving huge room I now have is good and bad, my 15ft USB extension is woefully inadequate, but it's also amazing in general, I can walk around in games properly and it is great

I agree with your Rift vs Vive thoughts too, the Vive always felt like an evolution of the DK2 to me, and while I'd be more than happy if I owned one, the Rifts overall fit and feel was part of why I went for one. Touch remains amazing as well, such a great controller.

Pump actions are the only kind of guns that are somewhat difficult to use with most stock configurations because you want the front controller cup rigid so your positions stay solid and your aim is good.

However, bolt actions are quite easy!
https://clips.twitch.tv/MagnificentSmoggyWaterCclamChamp?tt_medium=clips_api&tt_content=url

I have lots of other clips and highlights on my twitch showing how fast and easy the protube is for the BAM Royale game mode where you do lots of inventory and item management requiring moving the controller in and out of the cups quickly and frequently.

Having a stock is such a huge, huge, huge net positive for VR FPS games from both a performance perspective (improved aim) and an immersion perspective. It’s like playing racing games with a racing wheel. It just feels better.

Overall I agree with the statement that the rift and Vive are pretty much equivalent. I'm jealous of my friend's 14 foot by 16 foot play area with his vive, but I only have about 6' by 7' of space anyway, and I like the touch controllers much better. Most important for me was the price difference.

Hopefully sometime next year someone comes out with reasonably priced haptic gloves, or even just positional tracking gloves, which would be much better than any controller. I've read about prototypes, but commercial release and games that use them might take a while.

It’s my protube that’s been reconfigured a bit. It’s so amazing with the claymore and other 2H weapons.

Here is how it ended up after playing with hand positioning a lot and comparing it to how I would hold something shaped like a sword.

I haven’t played another melee game that had good enough 2H weapons that would work, but Tales of Glory is amazing, really the best melee game out there right now by a lot, and that includes GORN.

I hear Deus Vult is good too but I haven’t picked it up.

So I have been stupid busy and having a hard time catching up on the threads. However does anyone here have the TPCastVR for Vive yet?

I just got mine the other day from Newegg (Pre-Ordered from Microsoft but they canceled the order when it didn't ship on the 4th) and finished setting it up tonight.

Yes it has a small router that's used for the tracking data, but since my MB has 2 Nic ports it was a non issue.

Setup was straight forward and worked like a champ. Camera on the HMD doesn't work but everything else seems to be working perfectly. Not a hint of lag that I could notice and didn't drop tracking or blip video even once. :woop:

Finally, playing without cables is extremely freeing. Can't wait to jump into my Omni finally and spin around without fear of being choked to death from that drat cable.

Also the battery is good for ~5 hours of playtime. I got it with about 50% in it and even after an HR, it still showed 2 out of 3 dots solid so it should last a good bit.

That's very interesting. I guess this is useful for 2H swords but I'd figure most other 2H weapons (polearms) would require at least one hand being free to constantly move up and down the shaft during a fight.

Hm, I don't think your hands move up and down the polearm in Tales of Glory, otherwise that would be a problem. I think the distance between the natural point on the hands (to mimic the natural swinging motion, which is used to calculate damge) would need to be further apart, but should work just fine if you modified the controller to have a greater distance. The tube I chose to make my protube sword was the smallest one because the 2H claymore is soooooo good.

It's definitely better than using a mouse and keyboard, but the idea of two handing a polearm and being able to switch from anchoring with offhand for swinging it and anchoring with the main hand for thrusting it, and really thrusting or slamming it down on someone, is pretty tantalizing. I've seen some videos of H3 where things like axes and sledges are swung with the main hand sliding down the handle and it looks very satisfying.
