But it's time to talk about what "might be cool if." In 2 more weeks, nothing will be done. In 2 months - still nothing. At some point this year there will be a 30GB "patch" labelled "3.0" and it will be the same broken poo poo with a tacked-on vestigial feature like "Atmosphere 2.0" where they found a way to decouple the airlock <USE> prompt from your spacesuit and actually track whether or not the zone you're in has air in it (admittedly a very tricky problem that was somehow solved in 2001 by the Everquest guys, and probably earlier than that). University of Phoenix Warlord Training confirmed.

There's a bar near me that has huge bowls of salted peanuts on each table and along the bar itself, I once saw a guy pick his nose, do a quick glance at the fools gold he'd just mined, then flick it towards a wall, and then, yup, you guessed it, he stuck the same hand, fingertips first into a bowl that 3 or 4 people were taking from. The smackdown and subsequent ruling will be glorious. The backer's heads will spin and the people at the Guinness Book of World Records will have to strip away the title of biggest crowdfunding success. I'm sure the title of biggest pre-sale of fake space ships record is still open. They won't take away their record, they'll just change the record they hold. Chris Roberts, Guinness world record holder for "Biggest, most expensive failure due to utter incompetence in gaming history". Sandi Gardiner, Guinness world record holder for "worst acting ability to acting salary ratio." Say what you will, those are both pretty impressive accomplishments.

The Saddest Robot posted:What I'm curious about is this claim that RSI "Bought out the Engine". Did RSI buy the complete engine and rights to it but Crytek is still holding them to the original terms of their GLA? What does RSI think they bought? Why doesn't Crytek think that they just flat out purchased the engine from them? Is RSI just talking out their asses or grossly mistaken about something and they never purchased the engine? (I believe that this is the most likely explanation) We have no idea, nobody outside of CIG & Crytek would know. The GLA contract isn't public. All the info we do have such as "outright buyout" etc is from pathological liars who would say they had bought exclusive rights to the Moon if they thought it would sell more jpegs. It's entirely possible that the Erin Roberts post about having bought complete source was talking about the GLA contract with Crytek, logically their contract gave them full source if it also said they'd submit back their additions. If you go download cryengine SDK from crytek right now there is engine source code you don't get. So CIG had more access than a normal engine licensee does. But it's unlikely that they did an "outright buyout" in the same way Amazon did where they have full rights over everything.

Which is also bad faith. -Goons are pulling all the strings. -Money paid for goods and services not delivered is a pledge and therefore non-refundable unless the company feels like it. -Money due for goods and services delivered under contract is greed and therefore not collectable. -Only virtuous companies can sue. Any company that wants to sue a company you like is by definition not virtuous. -The 'nuh-uh' and 'no, you are' defenses are valid. Any more?

(I believe that this is the most likely explanation) My pet theory is that RSI licensed the engine on a long-term contract, possibly rolling renewal-until-specified. One of the IP specialists may be able to describe this with more certainty than I. Some courts will consider a long-term license to be virtually owning something (because you might as well, for most intents and purposes), so they'll treat the licence as a property right. Someone explained that to Roberts and Co and he went "ding! - I am a big important Space Game Director and clearly this means I own it! I have bought CryEngine". The rest was just however many years of Chris shouting down anyone who opened their mouth in meetings. Every time Toast tried to bring it up, he got told to shut up and go make the TOS more ironclad.
