Yeah, I assumed the infection and the Radiance are slightly separate things, so even with the previous Hollow Knight holding back the infection the Radiance still exists slightly removed from it, hence part of why the infection escapes is that it wasn't actually all sealed.

I'd be willing to bet he left, but yes. Although it's worth noting that travel does seem to be, in at least some places, dangerous to the mind. Remember the glyph outside the Howling Cliffs and how it said proceeding further would erase one's mind or memories? Travel between kingdoms is obviously possible, but it doesn't seem easy.

I think the Elder or some other Dirtmouth NPCs talk about travelers used to pass through. Cornifer and Iselda seem to be visitors, and I'd think that Zote's backstory involves an outside community that he's running from. But maybe Hollownest is just supposed to be much larger than it's represented in the game, and they're both from communities we don't see.

A lot of the graves in the Resting Grounds, alongside the Warrior Dreams basically confirm the existence of other cities. The main thing is that we don't know if they were made before or after White King granted the bugs intelligence. I feel like it had to be before the imparted intelligence because as someone else mentioned there's a sign that outright says you lose your individuality if you leave Hallownest.

In fairness, it could be that A: those carvings are referring specifically to the Hollow Knights and other "higher beings", or B: that desert is particularly special?

New update - Episode 27: The Escort Quest

Wrapping up this game by getting all the collectables, the new badges that the game decided to shove in mid-lp, and doing The Worst Quest in the Game. I hate this so much just because of that last loving room. Also as Sandman said, you can take the escort up to Dirtmouth for some unique interactions but I aint having any of that! Too much effort! On an aside, I failed to mention it in the video but Speedmaster is a wonderful trinket. Higher move speed just makes the game better.

Next episode, Final Boss!

I actually didn't find this whole sequence that bad. Glowing Womb + Grubberfly's Elegy meant drat near nothing actually got near me to do damage, so it was just a too-long jumping puzzle. That last room is bullshit, though.

i'm probably not the best person to even comment on the escort thing since i did it on my...second attempt? and i think i didn't even clear the enemies out beforehand. mostly just saved my soul to blast enemies in my way from afar so i'd never have to deal with them.

Magic was my friend too. I had to retry a few times because I had a dumb route that went through the crossroads and I kept a) forgetting about those dumb spikes that fall from the ceiling and b) forgetting that those dumb fat flies' dumb corpses explode a few seconds after death. Other than that, the route is almost entirely stuff where you can just be slow and careful (the last room being a notable exception).

So, what was the deal with the Dreamers sealing (or trying to seal) the Hollow Knight the first time ze came across their statues? Hadn't they already resigned themselves to "hey this poo poo doesn't seem to be working" by the time the game started?

By the time the game started, yeah, but that's some time after they did the sealing. The deal was to seal Radiance inside the Hollow Knight inside the temple. Two barriers, though both turned leaky.

Sorry - the player-character Hollow Knight, whatever we call them, not the original Hollow Knight. When you first get to the 3 statues of the Dreamers, they seal you away, and you only bust out (and get the Dream Nail) because of the mothlady. Or at least, that was how I interpreted it.

New Update - Episode 28: The Radiance

Its all come down to this, the final showdown. And man, is it a doozie. The final boss is effectively two-parter, and if you fail at the 2nd half then you have to redo the first half. Which kinda sucks. I do enjoy this endgame though; the first half harkens a bit too much like Allant / Gwyn, but the 2nd half is its own unique thing with probably the best boss introduction I've seen in a good while. The 2nd half of the fight though is super rough, mainly because it has 3 phases and the entire time the boss is doing 2 damage to you by default, doubled if you're overcharmed. I will say though, Grimm Troupe made this super easy though because with a guaranteed buff form Unbreakable Strength, I pretty much sweep through phase 2 no problem.

Next time, Post-Game! Prepare for the dance of the Grimm Troupe. Oh yeah, Appendix vids for Dream Trees/Grubs/Coliseum/Zote's Precepts should be up tomorrow because I forgot to export them last night! :v:

I personally hold to the interpretation that the Hollow Knight is struggling to help you during the boss fight. It's the body language, especially the way the Radiance just picks it up and slams it around during its second- and third-phase ground pound attack.

The story of this game is often described as Dark Souls-esque, but I have to admit, I think the way exposition is done in this game is better; one can get a better idea of the characters' personalities from the... voice acting than if they did the entire lines. I always found the line delivery in DS to be a bit... Unusual.

Gypsy is a racial slur for the Romani people, FYI.

I think the ultimate take away from the game is that we need no gods and no masters. You see Hollow Knight actually has anti-capitalistic themes and-

I forget if it was pointed out in this thread, but for most of the bosses in this game their patterns or general abilities are taught to you with the preceding enemies in their area. Soul Master has abilities like the other magic bugs. The Mantis Lords and Traitor Lord fight like better versions of the other mantises. Before you fight False Knight you fight some Havel-looking bugs.

The Radiance doesn't seem to have an easy parallel... until you remember that as a 'dream' boss, it has its predecessors in the form of the Dream Warriors, multiple of which have patterns like The Radiance. Elder Hu has pillars like that, for example, and Gorb shoots out spikes in a circle.

I believe Mark of Unn. Being able to quick heal on the move is pivotal. Also, you pretty much need max sword and health.

In the second trial, yeah, but I was asking about the third trial, the Trial of the Fool. And you definitely didn't have Shape of Unn then. For one, you never turned into a slug while healing; for another, Shape of Unn is two notches when Unbreakable Strength, Quick Focus, and Mark of Pride are three notches each, you can have ten notches total, and you weren't overcharmed.

Fun fact about those dual giant enemies at the end of the second trail: those two are the only ones in the entire game.

To complete their entry in the Hunter's Journal, you have to kill three of them.

So if you want to fill out the journal, you have to go through the entire Trial twice.

With the God Tamer, if you kill the mount first, the rider will just give up.

Time for the second, and probably final, episode of Damage Chat!

The radiance has 1700 total hit points across all of its forms. For comparison, the first boss- false knight- has 385, and the beetle horde of watcher knights has a combined total of 1320 hp, with each beetle having 220 hp.

Your dream shield badge deals the damage of a regular nail swing each time it contacts an enemy.

Your starting nail does 5 damage per hit. The Pure nail does 21 damage per hit. Pretty rad, that's over four times as much damage. So that'd take 81 hits.

The fragile strength badge gives a 50% nail damage increase, which also applies to your nail arts. 53 hits.

The dashing and great slashes both provide an extra 2.5x modifier to nail damage. That's at least 75 damage a whack if you combine the slash arts, strength badge, and pure nail. 23 hits.

However, the Cyclone slash nail art can deal up to seven times your normal nail strike damage if all of the slashes hit. That's over 210 damage in a single attack with pure nail and fragile strength. Absolutely brutal, but harder to use than the slash arts, especially tricky to get every hit to land. Less than ten hits, but you're not doing it because the radiance flies.

However, there's something you kind of missed out on using in the Radiance fight. There's one spell in particular that does a lot of damage very rapidly to the Radiance, and that's your abyssal shriek spell. Howling wraiths is kinda weak, at 30 damage a hit. The upgraded version is a much beefier 80 damage a hit, and the shaman stone also adds 50% to that upping it to 120 a hit. that's only 15 spellcasts to kill it, but you'll need to hit the radiance anyway to get the mana needed to fuel the spells.

Toss in the extra soul on strike badge, and the less soul to cast spells badge, and you're churning out some pretty high magic damage.

A few other damage sources to note, Glowing Womb flies deal 9 damage without defender's crest, 50%ish more with the crest due to the poison DOT, weaversong spiders deal 2 damage per hit, and the new DLC minion deals between 5 to 11 damage per hit based on... factors. If you fought the radiance with nothing but weaversong hits, you'd need to be really good at dodging, because that's 850 hits the spiders would need to land. You can do it, little guys!

Weaversong spiders and the new guy aren't affected by defender's crest, sadly.
