The game speaks for itself right now, but different people are getting different messages.

I’m actually surprised that despite the myriad of bugs and performance issues it is stable and not crashing as often as it used to, which I guess is damming with faint praise.

At least this. Idea didn’t get commandeered by white supremacists.

I only played it for a few minutes, but I agree. It's playable. It's not stable, it doesn't seem particularly enjoyable, and even in its mystical 5 year alpha state I cannot see how it will be even remotely close to what was promised. But it's playable.

They should at least be able to get Squadron 42 out, and I expect it to go as well as Duke Nukem Forever.

That's what makes this thread great, it's all just funny once you've got your money back!

Something weird is going on with the 3.0 release.

Let's first look at some of these phenomena and then i will give you my conclusion. Going from simple to complex.

1. Falling through floors and walls while in a spaceship that is moving.
2. Not seeing items others are carrying or wearing.
3. Not seeing quantum drive while "crew" in a ship.
4. Repeating commands without player interaction when getting into the pilot seat as "crew"

While the first 2 can be explained by network desync, #3 and #4 are not unless something else is going on here. #4 is so out of this world i have a video i clipped to show you that this is really happening.

https://clips.twitch.tv/LongIcyThymeCclamChamp

So how can this happen? Simple explanation is that every player has his own instance and once a player enters the instance of another player (spaceship) he becomes cargo and part of that players instance while his real instance is "paused" or simply confused back at the point where he entered the other players instance. When the crew member in that video took control of the ship, the game made it his instance and the servers tried to catch up to his game position by starting to warp him to the position he already was at.

It's amazing how these guys completely hosed up netcode for CryEngine to turn it into an MMO, which it can never be.

I mean, props to him, he's like a small time Chris. He runs around Reddit and TEST spewing shitfest videos about clickbait topics, then he talks poo poo about anyone on the other side of the argument for talking about those same issues with an opposing opinion.

He tried talking poo poo about me on the SC sub a while back saying I was a refunder, derek goon, blah blah, the usual poo poo. At the time I was still very much into Star Citizen and obviously took issue with him misrepresenting poo poo and called him out on it. He then started PMing me warm fuzzy friendly messages being "hehehe, it's good for the drama hehehe"

That cockgobler will say whatever if he thinks it will whip his SC fanboy following up and keep them watching his bullshit videos where he pretends to accurately report issues and current SC events.

This is why I say "gently caress 'em all, expose the bullshit" to the whole shadowy PMs of death threats and other shenanigans. But yeah, he's a loving moron who tries his best to insult any Star Citizen detractors while throwing in some backhanded comments here and there.

CR's little holiday diatribe is nice because it reveals his misunderstanding of what's wrong. His entire post was all about performance this, FPS that, and so on.

As if the performance itself was a problem and it needs to be handled.

Not the case Crobbler - the abysmal performance is a symptom.

It's like having a kid coughing up blood and phlegm all over the floor, so you say "It's ok, I've got more people coming in with mops, they'll be able to keep up and keep this floor clean." You're rather missing the point.

3.0 is irrelevant - it's just another inevitable consequence of the mistake they made in 2015 when they released what they called "2.0" - a cynical ploy to prove a "game" existed and an excuse to begin denying refunds. The cancer released to the PU two years ago is simply continuing to advance through its stages.

We're at stage IV now.

It's as if Croberts had been a home builder who had been away from the industry for a few decades and still tried using lots of asbestos in his construction projects. When workers and home buyers started getting sick all over the place he started trying to figure out why he kept hiring workers with poor health and also saying things like "Well, we've only had 8% of our workforce hospitalized, so that's not nearly as bad as you might think. We'll just have to make them all drink some orange juice in the morning and we should get these things sorted out soon enough.".

This isn't new. Were you around in the heyday of P_Gabz's videos? He just walked around trying to play the game, and a youtube commenter insisted he must be sneakily editing his CFG files to produce all these terrible bugs and clipping errors. The cultists leapt on this explanation because it made the cognitive dissonance go away. The video makes the game look like a bug-ridden disaster area, so there must be a conspiracy to sabotage the game to make it look so bad and not like the version in their heads at all.

Yeah, but my point is that we're reaching that point where the free ride is over, and the ever-increasing hackery has to come to an end. I am not suggesting that we'll be going back to optimization style of the C/C++ era. Just that the blatant disregard for performance, insane magpie mentality of cobbling together libraries, and other bad habits will hopefully be coming to an end. There is so much untapped potential in the current hardware, and unlocking it requires somewhat of a paradigm shift, not just in coding practices but in development methodologies as well. I'll resist the temptation to veer off into a longer rant, but I think Star Citizen is a prime example of why money, ambition and agile bravago simply can't cut it, if the foundation is poo poo and the engineering discipline simply isn't in place.

It might take a couple of years before we have widely available engines focusing on efficiency with Vulcan/DX12 and other ways to cut out unnecessary weight.

Not even subconsciously. Star Citizen made him rich. More, it gave him respect. He barks orders, his minions cringe and leap to obey. Regardless of whatever happens with the actual game, so far Star Citizen has been a magnificent rags-to-riches story for Chris Roberts personally. This is a serious reason I don't think he'll ever take a golden parachute even if everyone else around him does. His sheer ego won't let him admit defeat like that, even if it would mean he got to retire to the Caymans with a massive payout.
