He hosed a pig for over an hour, why did the pig sit there and take it? How did they prove he creampied the pig? Not that it mattered whether he did or not. That's not the point. I mean goddamn Jack Bauer would probably gently caress the pig with gusto.

Edit - episode 2, how's this bro supposed to do spin class with a boner?

It's not outrageous, it's unrealistic and patently absurd. No PM (short of Jack Bauer) would gently caress a pig to save a princess on such dubious terms. The behavior of social media and the actual media is sensational to say the least. The writers have barely a tentative grasp of the topics they believe they are taking on, and their representation of reality is full of run down tropes and the worst kind of popular tripe.

I binged most of the season tonight and thought it was pretty awful honestly. I mean, each episode on its own was decent entertainment; but none of it really felt like Black Mirror. Definitely the worst season by a huge margin.

Quick rundown of my thoughts.

E1: a fun episode but overall morally confusing. Like, yeah, Fatt Damon’s character was an rear end in a top hat/psychopath, but the episode established that several of the victims were kind of dicks (especially the co-owner, but also the two other women besides the main protagonist). Plus it set the tone that all of the people had wronged him in some way, but never went into why the intern or the computer guy were mean to him (guessing the protagonist wronged him by saying she wasn’t into him). Plus the Fatt Damon character was a loving moron. He punishes the people briefly after failing to escape but then immediately trusts the protagonist to go in to the mission alone and then go swimming with her? What? Just, bleh. The ending was kind of predictable, yet satisfying until you think about it a bit more. Like, what are the real world implications of what happened? The real life protagonist is going to feel like she hosed over and killed a man she admired and respected. It focused way too much on the avatars and felt kind of like a rehash of the white Christmas episode in reverse.

E2: this was probably my favorite episode honestly. Plot was satisfactory and it asked real world questions about how much protective parenting is too much. Good episode overall, even though it kind of reminded me of the Entire History of You.

E3: bad, bad bad. Main character had no relatable traits at all, and the episode really did a poor job of fleshing out her character in understanding her motivations. The first part had her feeling bad about the situation, then she flips over to a maniacal murderer. Predictable ending with a moral that I guess was ‘don’t do bad things or you’ll regret since the web will only get deeper’.

E4: This one felt the most ‘Black Mirror’ of them all, but the ending was terrible. It kind of reeked of bad fan theories about it all being a dream. The rest of the episode was good but the ending left a bad taste in my mouth.

E5: worst of the season. Black Mirror has hinted at post apocalyptic settings before but always went back on it, and this was the first time they went whole hog with it. It was boring, had no establishment of characters or really their motivations; along with no explanation as to why the environment was the way it was. In the end it was a confusing boring mess and was basically a Black Mirror episode in name only.

E6: honestly I couldn’t finish it. I have issues with self mutilation due to a traumatic experience in the past and had to turn it off with the scene that involved that. Seemed like a decent episode and maybe I’ll get back to it eventually.

Overall I’d rank them: 2, 4, 6 (Maybe?), 1, 3, 5. Bad season overall and may not watch it after the next season if it doesn’t turn around.

6 is probably the best of the season; the self-mutilation moment is quite brief (which is probably why they pushed it so hard) and then you're on to other stories which start to push into more interesting territory. And I personally found a hell of a lot more to like in most of this season than in the loving Waldo Moment.

But then, I think it's almost wrong to think of Black Mirror as having 'seasons' so much as it has a series of episodes, some of which were made before others and therefore some of which reference ones made before.

Ep 1 would have been much better if the ending was "yay, they successfully killed themselves."
I like Ep 5 but as sci-fi all it's saying is "autonomous weapons are bad and could potentially destroy civilisation," which Terminator basically covered better.
Ep 6 would be the best one yet I think, if it wasn't for torturing uploaded consciousnesses now feeling a bit played out. Still great.

At least a couple of them were coders, so they could presumably get remote-working jobs and pay their way with server costs, on a private server if needed (until they went stir crazy).

I thought this season was pretty weak. They used the whole "what if you could upload someone's consciousness and then treat them like poo poo" trope too much.

The ending of the "Crocodile" episode felt massively rushed like they didn't know how to end it . It's established that humans need auditory and olfactory cues to accurately recall memories for the machine to read them but the cops are able to use a guinea pig and accurately identify the killer within the span of one night.

A guinea pig's bedding gets really smelly. Also the cops might have a more advanced/better version of the scanner compared to an insurance adjuster's.
