Oh joy. Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition.

...I hope it's just hyrule warriors legends but better because I'm perfectly fine with hyrule warriors wii u and I've almost finished the adventure mode stuff after years of on and off play and I know legends had some small additional story stuff and a couple new adventure maps but I really don't want to feel like I need to get hyrule warriors and redo all of the stuff I'd already done just to play as some new characters. So hopefully it's just a definitive edition without any new characters outside of the aforementioned costumes.

I don't want to have to redo all of my wii u progress dammit lol

I kinda wanna finally check out the series so I gotta choose between Zelda or FE, leaning towards FE. But DQ would take that spot more than likely, if it was an option at all

FE warriors makes you feel more like a general commanding an army and Hyrule warriors makes you feel like the only competent soldier in the entire kingdom rushing from place to place putting out fires and oh god so much is going wrong

FE has a bad roster if you're an older fan but it's fine if you started with Awakening. There's more clones (and because the DLC isn't finished, fewer characters period).

Zelda is absolutely the better game if you can hold out. Also the 3DS version + DLC added an overwhelming amount of content to the game and that'll all be included in the Switch release

The complaints I've heard about FE warriors make it sound like they suffer from lack of character variety due to most of the cast being pulled from the past few releases.

Hyrule Warriors is insanely good and also has an insane amount of content if you care for that sort of thing. Tons of different characters, some with multiple different weapons (each weapon moveset is essentially its own character), the story mode doesn't last too long but it's there and you have some optional side story modes as well. Then there are the adventure maps which are just these big zelda-style maps where each node of the map is a battle of some kind with a lot of variety and you progress by finishing the map and achieving a certain rank. The variety of mission types range from "kill enemies" to "kill enemies but if you get hit, you lose all of your health down to 1 heart, and all enemies die in one hit" to "answer a trivia question by killing the enemy that represents the right answer" to "escort bombchus to an enemy base" to "pick one of 2 allies and team up with your ally against the choice you turned down" and all kinds of stuff. Various rewards for completing these maps include heart pieces, new weapons, new weapon tiers, new costumes, stuff like that. There are also a bunch of gold skulltulas hidden throughout the story mode and the maps and they will unlock special rewards maps. Then the additional adventure maps which each have their own gimmick, like the twilight princess map which has fog of war on some of the maps so that you can't tell where your enemies are on the minimap, or the majora's mask map where you have a timer that goes down by 1 for each battle you take part in and if the timer reaches 0, the progress on the map resets except for any owl statues you've activated. There is even a mode where you get to play through as ganon and run around bashing enemies as this overpowered boss monster.

My two major complaints though:

1. adventure maps will require you to make progress based on rank. There are 3 ranks. C, B, and A. Rank is determined by how much time you spent in a stage, how many kills you got in the stage, and how much damage you took in the stage. To get an A rank, you need an A in each of those 3 categories. In a game where it is very easy to get juggled, it can be annoying to get over halfway through a mission and have to restart it because you took too much damage and you're required to get the A rank on this mission to make any progress on the map. It's just a nuisance because in some maps, they disable one of the categories (for example, on maps where you have to survive a set amount of time, the time category is disabled) but not being allowed to take more than 10 hearts of damage before you lose out on the damage A rank is pretty bs. Doubly so when you are playing co-op and that damage counter is cumulative so if one player takes 5 hearts of damage and the other takes 5 hearts, then you've lost the A rank.

2. bosses. The bosses are typical zelda-style bosses where you have to use a specific item on them in order to beat them, but this is annoying because it involves waiting on them to show their weak point. You can barely do any damage outside of that. Once they show their weak point and you can use the item on them, they get stunned and you have to hit them, but your attacks still don't do a lot of damage. Once you deplete their weak point gauge (which only shows up when you stun them), you do a special finisher attack on them that does meaningful damage to them, but there are several times where you have to do this with multiple bosses at once and it can take 3 or 4 finishers to beat them. On top of that, the Manhandla and the Imprisoned are both really mean bosses all around because Manhandla has an attack where if you don't guard and you aren't aware of it, it just stun locks you and, later in the game, kills you (or almost kills you) and if you're juggling enemies and bosses then you're stuck with having to keep an eye on Manhandla and hoping it doesn't do its ranged stun-lock-you-to-death attack. The Imprisoned is just a very large enemy who can do a lot of damage to you and while his weak point is always exposed, he will always get out of stun when you get his weak point gauge down to half no matter what and then he'll go crawling after you for a while. Because of how big he is, this can result in the camera getting caught on him and he's just a big nuisance to fight. If you're stuck fighting him in a small area, his large size can prevent you from getting away from him safely and his shockwaves take off a lot of HP as well. I just don't like the bosses and I think the game would have been better if you could just like...attack the bosses normally.

I've only played the wii u version. I have all of the dlc for it but that dlc doesn't include the new features for the 3DS version like the fairies and fairy dress up and the extra bosses, so I can't comment on that.

Oh KB+M is a total mess, unless you have one of those fancy gamer mouses with tons of buttons. With a standard 3 button mouse you don't have enough buttons to bind everything properly.

Just keyboard though? That's fine. Just rebind everything camera related to your numpad and put the attack buttons over there too.
