I loving loved Hulk Hogan so much when I was like 5 years old.

But I've always found their weird character designs really endearing, and it made for some interesting stuff in AAAHH! Real Monsters. I think As Told By Ginger was the nadir of their character designs, though. I rewatched it last year and it holds up really well. The rooms in their house are actually really tiny compared to her 2 parent, middle class friends' homes and her mom is always at the kitchen table looking over their bills. Plus anything with Cree Summer in it playing a villain is enjoyable

If you can't wrap your head around the thankless writers and animators of a massively popular 90s cartoon show blowing off steam by making the characters do hosed up stuff in storyboards you are a thoughtless and humorless loving idiot

That man would immediately start going off on any wrestler who took too long getting onto the top rope. He was like Gorilla Monsoon when it came to guys not hooking the leg on a pin, or who failed to correctly apply the abdominal stretch. He was a lot of fun to watch wrestling with. My grandpa hates wrestling and was always like "Wrestling is fake and bullshit!" and would get super pissed, but when he would watch it with me he would get super mad if someone beat up the referee and say "What an rear end in a top hat! Beating up the ref, what a coward!" so I have no idea what he thought was real and what was fake but it was fun

I've found there's three phases of watching wrestling: A child: Wrestling is real and awesome! A teen: wrestling is fake and stupid An adult: wrestling is fake and awesome! Although this is coming from somebody who only has a very casual relationship with pro wrestling.

The only thing I remember about rugrats post movie was that Chuckie's step-sister was Japanese and no one ever called attention to it, instead of people constantly asking how she could see if she was squinting all the time. Totally unrealistic, I'm only half-Japanese and I got asked that constantly in school She was basically the only Asian character I can think of in cartoons at the time, pity she was so boring.

The problem with Kim was that she was just generally brave, like a Tommy 2.0, so she was redundant. They could have had other ways to contrast her with the others, like maybe having her be a faster developer (ie learning language faster due to growing up bilingual) but that could fall into the Smart Asian stereotype, but she should have had something other than generic bravery.

Obvious tacked on token minorities get like that, and the 90s was full of em. Doesn't tend to end well given it means you end up with white people having all the interesting personality traits and flaws, while the rest might as well just be ethnic sidekicks. They're a lot better at it these days with incorporating non-white characters into the core cast rather than the periphery. (Star Vs The Forces of Evil comes to mind) Reminded of how non-human cartoon characters like the TMNT might have had such broad appeal in part because as non-human characters there's little to no racial baggage around them. Hell, they have Italian names, were raised by an Asian rat-person (who inverts pretty much all the stereotypes involved with rats, except the 2012 version, who is awesome), have grown up with American pop culture but as an extreme minority isolated from society, and make a very diverse group of friends both human and otherwise.
