There are no good gym defenders. Everything is easily killable because the attacker's set their team up in advance with the best counters to whatever's in the gym.

I put in rare stuff so maybe someone gets a dex entry, it's the only way I've been able to see some Pokemon (regionals, Unown, fuckin Tangela). And to contribute to a theme, those who break those are the WORST.

Remora posted:Is it better to power up and then evolve, or vice versa, or does it matter? I'm having trouble getting a grasp of how CP works in relation to IVs and levels and poo poo. It doesn't matter. All Pokemon are at their own levels that you can't really see, but they go from 1 to 40. When you catch a Pokemon, its possible level it can start at are 1 to whatever level you are, but maxes out at 30 (35 during the right weather boosts). You know when you view a Pokemon and you see that arc behind it? When you power it up, the arc reaches further with the white. That's what the level is. Every power up is half a level though, so you might see an app that helps determine their level say it's maybe level 18.5 or something. Knowing this, when you evolve, your Pokemon's level stays the same, but obviously it's on a different track of CP. I'm making up numbers here, but like a Squirtle's CP goes from like 10cp at level 1 to 950cp at level 40, and a Wartortle's CP goes from 50cp at level 1 to 1300cp at level 40. It's NOT a multiplier when you evolve a Pokemon, so you're not missing out on exponentially increasing a Pokemon's CP if you failed to power it up before evolving. They end up being the same no matter if you power up or evolve first. If your Pokemon has higher IVs, then it'll end up with more CP. Most people will tell you in here that after doing the math, it's not going to make a huge difference in raid or gym battles since you're fighting a CPU controlled enemy and the one or two more attacks you might be able to tank won't help much, nor will it ever change the CPU's pattern of firing off charge attacks. It's really hard to say, because you never know how many people will be fighting in a raid, and sometimes good IVs just might help make the difference in finishing a raid boss in time. Right now though, it's probably more for collectors/perfectionists unless Niantic finds a way to make PvP battling, where it might matter more.

Apparently 37 degrees and intense downpours is the equivalent to snow in this game for some reason. Even when it's snowing in game jack poo poo spawns. The weather system is hot garbage when it comes to spawning poo poo that aligns with the weather.

Steel and ice Pokemon are incredibly rare in some places, weather just bumps them up to "still pretty loving rare". We get a ton of Spheal and Magnemite when its snowy around here but that's about it. I guess Swinubs and Arons show up a little bit too, but not really in the same numbers. I have never seen a dragon spawn in windy weather. Parrotine posted:You could say that about Rhydon but that doesn't stop people from loading him up in all the gyms I run across Rhyhorns are loving everywhere and people still have lots from when they were relevant to the gym system. They are essentially high cp garbage that people dump into gyms because they're not going to use them for anything else. Which is probably what's going to happen to Aggron in a few months. I haven't seen a single dratini since weather was introduced. I just looked at the map there isn't a single one in the Seattle area. The weather has rotated from cloudy to rainy, so it's all the same poo poo. Spheals, wurmple, oddish, machops, gulpins, and maybe the occasional ralts. The system would be cool if it wasn't linked to the weather because it never snows where I'm at.

Likewise there is no reason so many of the eggs have to be from gen 1 by this point. They removed the rat in Pidgey and they really should remove several of the others like Ponyta Growlithe the male and female Nidoran Etc.

Only Snorunt is a pure ice type (at least for now), and only Gen 5's Klink line is pure steel so the rest of the steel/ice types should be boosted by other weather conditions. We have had a ton of reasonably rare gen 3 Pokemon nest around here lately, you unfortunately just got the rear end end of the rng this time. They'll probably roll around to you eventually. If it helps any, they've removed all gen 1 and 2 Pokemon from the egg pool temporarily and you haven't been able to hatch a nidoran in ages. My suggestion is they put steel in partly cloudy, since that only has normal and rock boost. All the other weather types kind of make sense, except for cloudy.

There are more mons in gen 1 than 2 or what's been released of 3, plus a decent chunk of gen 2 are babies and evolves that need items, none of which spawn at all. If you're going to take earlier gen mons out of the game then it really has to be all or nothing. Ponyta and Growlithe for example are pretty rare where I am, I'd much rather get rid of Goldeen and Poliwag.

We used to have a lot more Dratini on the riverfronts, not so much any more. I did a lot of raids to get Larvitar candy since they almost never spawn here, and I did a lot of hunting during the rock event. I still see a few of each on the city map but not often.

Chairman Mao posted:No there wouldn't be, fog only boosts ghost and dark types. You want sunny/clear or partly cloudy for the ground or rock boost. The game has shown to boost the first form of final forms typing even if they aren't the same. Torchic is common in cloudy weather because Blaziken is a fighting type (although Torchic won't be weather boosted), and Slugma shows up in partly cloudy because Magcargo is rock. So I wouldn't be surprised if Larvitars showed up in fog. You'd still as to catch them in sunny / partly cloudy weather for the boost, though.

Come to Arizona if you want a Bonanza of the latest release. Numel, cacnea, trapinch, claydol are all incredibly common. Less common but still plentiful are nosepass, aron, lileep, whismur. Stage twos pop up here and there. Solrock is really rare and you'd need a scanner or good luck to find it. I caught two thanks to a scanner this week. It's always Sunny here so any of those types spawn like crazy.
