Sadly, a lot of stupid people are losing a bunch of money. Happily, a lot of assholes are losing money, too. Good. It doesn't always pay to try to rip other people off.

What I don't get is why people are buying at all? It's pretty obviously dropping. Why not wait it out? Just in case it doesn't drop any longer? Seems like throwing money away at this point. Or are these buy orders that are stuck in the system to go through at certain thresholds and the order was never removed?

Waltzing Along posted:What I don't get is why people are buying at all? An asset class that exists solely for wild speculation does not follow any predictable patterns in the short-term. It doesn't matter how right anyone is in that it has no long term value and will inevitably crater to a dollar. While volatility is high there is potentially money to be made. It's pretty much degen gambling (unless you are of the few that have inside information) and probably not at all an intelligent thing to do but the fact remains, there is much money to be made on any period of high volatility. "Bulls make money Bears make money and Pigs get slaughtered" In this case the Pigs are people who actually think Crypto has value beyond being a speculative casino

At least with stock you have expectations of future earnings and with currency you have the expectation of a growing economy or the country being able to raise revenue. The most hilarious final bitcoin nail will be the revelation that North Korea was a huge nation state investor. I don't know how credible the rumors are that they were heavily investing, but it seems likely given the sanctions imposed on them throughout the world.
