I'm surprised they did it at all. No loving way would I drive a car like that on a dilapidated steep banked track, much less a freshly paved one. Also, I'm guessing that plastic window in the Aston cost about 10 bucks, so they didn't care that Jeremy cut holes in it.

Yeah, there was a x-ray note that Aston was cool with it. Pun not intended

Do we even know, chronologically, that this filmed bit came after Hammond's accident in the first episode?

I mean, he wrecked the car and got a fractured knee on June 10th and it was plainly hot when they were in Spain (at least before they got into the mountains.) I don't think he was even off crutches until almost September. There's no way he could have been driving that Jag around after he was injured in the crash.

Edit: I found an article saying that the Switzerland piece was the first one they filmed, so I guess it was first.

I do remember them saying that the reason it took so long for season 2 to come out was they had to spend months waiting for Hammond to actually be able to walk again properly to do a fair bit of the shooting- on the GT vs public transport race he was still obviously crippled, so that would probably be pretty fresh in his mind by the time they shot that- and he also mentioned that his knee was in agony trying to clutch in the jag too.

Never noticed Jeremy having tremors like when he did the Ford GT on track segment. But then again I just started watching Grand Tour and haven't really seen much of him (them) for the last couple of years.

Not big on Penn&Teller and I've never heard of this Dynamo dude, but Clarkson&May's reactions to the jet spooling up immediately behind them were fantastic and the XJ220/EB110 segment was :swoon:

I agree. We already can't afford the cars they test, might as well shoot for the moon and review insane cars.

I think most super car tests are pretty boring and have been for years. It's interesting when there's actually something new and particular about them, but most often it isn't. They touched on this in ep 8 (I think), with a silly lineup of new supercars with weird names. None of them would stray far from the decades old formula of:

"The Name R was good. Now they've made the Name RR. The R had X brake hp, but the RR has X+Y. That's like (ridiculous activity) in a (preposterous context), which is funny! It has more carbon fiber and more speed. Lower weight but higher cost! They say it can go around the 'ring in (amount of time I don't give a poo poo about). Listen to that noise! (vague and unimpressive engine sounds gently emit from my laptop).

(It is good to drive but it's bad) or (It is bad to drive but it's good)."

Honestly, the most interesting car they've had on the show in ages was the weird airport ferry thing from the non-stop refuelling bit and I'm pretty sure it's a shaky nightmare if you try to take it over 5kph.

One of the best things about discovering Top Gear for the first time was all the florid prose and metaphors they all would use in describing superlative (or terrible) performance. "Like trying to wrestle a cow up a set of back stairs" and so on. But after enough years even the British Wordplay Humor well runs dry...

Wasn't James' problem with the 'ring more that so many manufacturers are putting too much focus on lap times in cars that are supposed to be more on the "luxury sport" side of things and ruining the comfort as a result? The CTR doesn't really have this problem, anyone with a brain expects it to have compromised ride for performance because that's what hot hatches do.

Bajaha

BajaHAHAHA.

In that light it does make more sense, but it would have felt more in character to say it's got a comfortable ride in spite of its prowess at the ring. The way he phrased it sounded like a disconnect from his earlier critique of the ring ruining cars by making them uncomfortable as you've mentioned.

In other news, this season has been phenomenal, they've really found a groove that works. Does anyone know if they're doing any sort of travel special like last season?

And cheap car challenges are all I need for this to be perfect.

What the hell is the point of electric handbrakes? Aren't one of the primary purposes of the handbrake to be an emergency brake in case of MASSIVE systems failure?

If it's electric, It'll just fail with the rest of the brakes, the gently caress?

She wasn't there promoting anything. A few years ago when I found out she dailies and has the world's highest mileage LFA I gained a little more respect for her. And they talked about golf for a minute or two, tangentially at that, because they just talked about crashing golf carts. It wasn't a bad segment.

You could tell she was driving the car in automatic though.
