Finally drove to a DSA meeting in Houston. I will probably join at least one working group. Little Caesars Pizza is the pizza of socialism and sang solidarity forever.

Our county governmenet has been touting its homeless services, but the homeless seem not to agree. The county's also on this anti-panhandling tear.

Anyway, we're putting together care packages to give to the homeless and panhandlers and engaging with them at community meetings and the like, and it's been going pretty well and with, hopefully, the heavy DSA influence on the new council should we win our races, we could get the county to actually respond.

You joined the Austin org while we're still in the middle of transitioning from being a one-person dictatorship into having things like a treasurer and a budget, so bear with us

Is that one on the 17th? I didn't sign up, but I can definitely help in the morning-noon if you don't get enough people.

No joke I played bad and boujee at a party full of socialists on new years and everyone got super into it except one white dude who got incredibly upset about it being problematic then I laughed at him

A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.
So I have a question.

I see that the DSA has many different prices for membership:

Membership Type Annual Dues Amount
Introductory $45.00
Regular $60.00
Sponsor $85.00
Family $110.00
Sustainer $175.00
Student/Young Democratic Socialists $20.00
Low Income $27.00
Lifetime for 50 Years $750.00

Now, I should have no problem affording the $45.00 introductory rate. However, I currently have a temp job and while it will end in three months, there is no guarantee that I won't be fired tomorrow for any reason, and I don't have a job lined up after that.

Would it be a lovely thing if I become a member with the low income $27.00 rate and not the $45.00 rate due to this?

I know this is technically all anonymous for which one I sign up for, but I want to maintain my honor and not feel like a piece of poo poo cheapskate.

There's no income requirement for which dues to pay, it operates on the honor system. If paying dues at a certain level could put you in a bad spot in the near future, go ahead and do the low income option. I'm sure there are also members in your chapter who will help pay for dues if necessary.

If I were in your spot, I'd do the $27 tier, and when employment is a bit more stable, do the $45 tier or the monthly payment plan.

Everything's fine.

Nothing to see here.
Pay monthly dues- it's what I plan on doing once my $27 membership runs out. Also, there are plenty of options for new PDX members if you need assistance beyond the options offered by National.

we use it for the vet working group, a lot of chapters use it for general stuff, you probably don't need it though
