I missed some Neptunia talk but: the biggest disappointment for me about the Nep series is that people always describe it in terms of the characters based on video games and the console war, but that entire angle is purely a surface-level hook and has no thought put into any of it. Like sure, the four nations are based on console companies and the characters are each supposed to be a console, but that's literally as far as the analogy goes. You could rename Nep to Neo and Historia to Morpheus and suddenly the game is a Matrix parody and has about as much to do with the movie as the current series does with video games. Also someone asked if it was a pervert series for perverts: yes, absolutely, and anyone saying otherwise is having a severe case of selective memory. I'm pretty well-versed in weird Japanese poo poo but there was a part in one of the two games in the series that I played that still managed to weird me out. In the series, one of the main plot points is transforming, and usually when you transform your anime tiddies get way bigger, and so a topic of conversation that happens all the time all the time all the time is comparing anime tiddy sizes. One character prides herself on having the biggest anime tiddies and constantly lords it over everyone, and then gets mad when a new character is introduced with bigger anime tiddies. One character has very small anime tiddies and they don't get any bigger when transforming and she constantly has anime tiddy envy. When a new character transforms for the first time, every other character will eventually have a full conversation with them about their anime tiddy quality in this transformed state. Most of this is pretty standard ecchi stuff. But, in Rebirth 3, you travel to an alternate dimension that is also in the past, and you meet the baby versions of three characters. After a time skip or two, the three characters are now about twelve or so, and in the Neptunia universe they are now up for joining into the anime tiddy size comparison discussions. I don't even want to type out the basis of all the conversations that happen, but basically every character gets to have their own thoughts about the anime tiddy size of each of the twelve year olds, particularly when one of them gains the ability to transform and ends up having the biggest anime tiddies of any character in the game. So yeah, game's gross.

irony in general is pretty tiresome and obnoxious, especially now that it has to be omnipresent everywhere with trails of cold steel 2 coming out soon, is there a good recap of 1 anywhere? i'm getting close to finishing up 3rd I think. i was a little surprised to see characters from CS in it since it came out six years prior.
