For me, where google excels and others fail is when I'm searching for numbers, be it mystery phone calls, torrent hashes, serial numbers or model numbers on electronic products etc. Google is definitely better at that.

You should also check out https://searx.me/ While not a true standalone search engine, it compiles metadata from many different search engines and sends it towards you securely. it's also self hostable if you're a nerd. Same thing but only Google searches https://startpage.com/

All the mobile Google search results are just paid links it sucks. I googled something over the weekend while I was running some errands and the entire first page was sponsored links for poo poo that was not even what I was looking for or trying to find at all.

I admit I was originally hesitant to adopt DG since it’s based in Philadelphia but the fact of the matter is if you don’t set DuckDuckGo as your search engine you might as well call up GCHQ and narrate your inner thoughts like your life if a Peep Show episode Bang commands are awesome and if you actually know how to search (not just plug in a word salad of search terms) the DDG results are fine There is no logical reason to leave google as your search engine

What are people looking for on google that they're concerned about? There's plenty of search history jokes, but who other than confused old people actually googles for porn? Oh no google knows I looked up some song lyrics and "grim dawn retaliation lifesteal" this week. How terrible.
