We have a couple of pairs of Rainbow Lorikeets that have claimed the bottlebrush tree outside our balcony. All other birds are noisily chased off. When they are chill though, they have a lovely melodic coo and are pretty friendly. Once the tree has finished flowering (which it does twice, spring and summer) , they disappear and other birds move back in.
So we either get woken up by Lorikeets screeching or by Kookaburras laughing, Currawongs, Magpies and Butcherbirds singing.

The chickens I take care of at my housekeeping job don't especially like to be petted. But they are very communicative. I brought out salad today, their favorite people food, while filling their feed tray. The salad was in one of the plastic things you get at the grocery store. They pecked at it a few times before looking up at me like,"is this a joke? Not funny human!"

I sneezed one time as I was leaving the coop and startled them. The buff hen stood up straight and chewed me out in chicken speak. It was pretty funny.

I did pet one of the red hens when she was broody. Did you know chickens growl? Did you know it's also kinda cute? She had, like, 20 eggs under her.

Apparently, when one chicken broods, the other chickens wait until she gets up to eat and drink, then all rush in to lay their eggs in her nest so that they don't have to be worried about incubating their eggs. There is no rooster, so none of the eggs are fertilized.

Broody chicken actually seemed to kinda like the petting after she realized I wasn't trying to eat her. As long as I stayed away from her wattles. When I got close to those, she was all,"I will peck the poo poo out of you if you touch those."

There's an eastern screech owl who by my apartment almost every night. He or she seemed to dig many of the videos from this thread, especially cockatiel videos. I couldn't find any looped videos of cockatiels whistling songs, so I looked up tin whistle music. There were at least 10 owls in the trees while I was playing it. The one with the super white belly perched especially close.

Then the neighborhood cat came to visit me and I thought it would be lovely to continue to lure the owls closer to me since he thinks they look delicious. All of the owls dispersed after a few minutes of no music.

I like how the bird got mad that it was not getting a back of the head scratch. Cockatiels are my favorite pet bird. Super sweet and don�t need ALL of the attention. They just need a couple of hours a day, in my meager experience with them.
