Going back to capital punishment chat, Oklahoma has announced it’s going to switch to nitrogen gas as its execution tool, since they can’t get the right lethal injection drugs anymore and keep loving it up with the replacement stuff.

In other Oklahoma news, a bond agent shot an unarmed man in the back and the verdict came back not guilty! She set up a meeting in her office, locked the doors and tried to apprehend him for non-payment of premium. He got upset and tried to go out the window so she pulled a gun out of her desk and shot him. Oh and her 19 year old son was there to see it happen. The state just released the footage and I won't link it. There's nothing graphic it's just hosed up. I know biologically we all have an aversion to eye injuries but I’m definitely more squeamish about that than the average person I think. I could never do contacts. The sad part is that if she’d been diagnosed earlier and gotten the help she needed it never would have escalated so far.

I watched a documentary about the death penalty a while ago and the presenter came to the same conclusion; that Nitrogen displacement would be a much more humane method. He put this to a proponent of lethal injections, and his response was basically "These guys are murderers, why do you care about how they feel?"

I'm at work so can't look for it, but there used to be that youtube video of the guy that thought the government put something in his eye to track him and he's sitting there picking the membrane off the side of his eye for minutes until he gets a little glop of it off and holds it up to the camera wit h the corner of his eye starting to bleed saying "See! I told you!"

Lethal Injection is supposed to be a "humane" way of executing somebody (just "putting them to sleep") so if that's what they're going for, my way seems a lot more humane. If not, then just drop all pretense and use a bullet to the back of the head.

"Humane" execution is also for the benefit of the executioner, witnesses, and anyone taking care of the body/cleaning up. Otherwise we'd just be obliterating people with a giant robot Gallagher or some poo poo. Nitrogen displacement would work the best for both the prisoner and everyone else involved but to get it imllemented as a method of execution, you'd have to get past the objections anybody against the death penalty as a whole as well as the bloodlust brigade.
