That probably qualifies as the most beautiful road hazard I've seen.

Murphys Law

Driving home from work Friday I witnessed, and was probably nearly caught up in, what was almost a really bad accident.

There's a lane closure on 695 on my way home from work, and traffic always gets a little backed up here. I'm in the left lane, and there's an SUV to my right. Traffic in the right lane ahead has slowed down almost to a stop.

I ease up on the gas because I don't want that big speed differential between us. The SUV continues on at it's original pace.

I assume he's going to get over in front of me so I ease up on the gas even more. The SUV continues on at it's original pace.

The space between them and the car in front of them is shrinking rapidly. They're obviously unaware of this, probably because they're loving with their phone.
I move my foot over to my brake pedal, and cringe because this is not going to be pretty.

At the very last moment I I guess they looked up. They slam on the brakes, swerve into the left lane (where I would have been had I not slowed down) with maybe inches to spare, and cross onto the left shoulder where they take out three big orange and white construction barrels before regaining control of their vehicle. There are bits of white plastic in the road, either from construction barrel or the SUV or both.

When they found a gap in the right lane the crossed two lanes of traffic to take the next exit. I don't know if they were exiting there anyway, or just didn't want to be stuck in traffic with people who just witnessed their gently caress up, or wanted to check out any damage they just did to their SUV.

It all happened in a matter of seconds. By the time I even began to think about honking the horn in an attempt to get their attention they were already reacting. The adrenaline rush lasted the whole way home.

Looks like they have about 8 people loading it down so they're probably as least likely to die as possible. Soon as it starts to float though say goodbye road trip. :v:

LOL people in your area stop for emergency vehicles? Around here if you pull over for an emergency vehicle you're likely to get passed.

By the guy behind you, the emergency vehicle, and then the 4 guys tailgating it.

HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. — More than a dozen tractor-trailers lined up beneath a Detroit-area freeway overpass to aid police trying to help a man contemplating suicide.

Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said troopers received a call early Tuesday about the man standing on an overpass above Interstate 696 in Huntington Woods. As officers routed traffic away, they directed truckers to drive into positions to shorten the fall if the man jumped.

Thirteen trucks lined the freeway as police dealt with the man. The incident lasted about four hours until he walked off to waiting officers and to seek medical help.

I pass them up and flip them off when/where applicable because gently caress those tools. More often than not it has nothing to do with speeding, it's gawking morons that can't mind their own business and/or end up causing an accident because their eyes were glued to an problem they had no part of. Need to have some kind of instant pop-up tarp or something with like 10'x10' panels to put around that poo poo so nobody can see or rubberneck.

I'm not an expert on Louisiana traffic laws, but I'm pretty sure that passing an ambulance on the right is not legal. Still saw it last week.

Never having worked concrete, is it a huge problem to bring the guys back out and smooth it over again?

I mean yeah they gotta dig their gear back out of the truck and maybe pay some overtime, but it doesn't require a whole new pour does it?

IANACL, but as I understand it concrete starts "setting" pretty much as soon as it's mixed, and sure as hell as soon as it's poured. (I recall stories, possibly from this very thread, about how delays in transporting/pouring a load can end up with the whole load being dumped and a new mix/por being scheduled.)

So, once it's down, minor fuckery will just piss off the workers, but something like digging a couple new trenches through the pour will probably cause that area to cure at different rate, and that's without the wheels loving up the compacted base and maybe ending with a couple little gutters in the slab once it's all done. Concrete seems to be happiest when it's all one big homogenous mass, like a brownie, but the baker doesn't get screamed at if the end product isn't nice and smooth and begins cracking waaaaay sooner than expected.

Again, I'm not a concrete lawyer, so maybe dude was just pissed because he's gonna be late to Dollar Stripper Hour or something.
