I had whiskey for the first time yesterday. I didn't know anything about it as far as what is and isn't good so I just asked the waitress to pick something good. She came back with a glass of jameson caskmates on the rocks and idk if that is considered a good representative of whiskey or not but I enjoyed it, very smooth, warm in the back of my throat, tasted nice.

If you liked that, then actual good whisk(e)y is gonna blow your mind. Try an "entry level" single malt scotch like Glenlivet 12y, Glenfiddich 12y, or Glenmorangie 10y. Just careful who you mention ice around, that's a good way to start a holy war.

I only chose ice because a friend who loves whiskey (is it whisky? sorry, idk if it's an either/or thing or if I've just been spelling it wrong) said that the ice helps to cut it down and the dilution makes it more palatable.

If Jameson is considered bad, what's considered bad about it or what is considered good about stuff like Glenlivet?

All my recent reading is stuff on folkloric monsters and cryptids, but more stuff done on a scholarly level (and totally skeptical for the crytid stuff) besides a few bestiaries which are at least nice as a reminder/overview for other stuff I should be reading about later in more detail.

Its good stuff. Like as a kid I was kinda obsessed with monsters (i think i vaguely related to them in the sense they represent "others" and such) so like going back and doing serious actual reading on this stuff is fun.

Oh and I guess I am also trying to read some more orthodox mysteries. I need to read Tokyo Zodiac Murders, Decagon House Murders sometime next month.

The spelling is just copy preferences. Different producers have different preferences.

There are various factors to good whiskey but the biggest is aging. Alcohol mellows with age and takes on the flavor of its barrels but the longer it ages the more it evaporates. Single malt comes from a single pot while blended whiskey, like Jameson, uses a mix and often contains additives like coloring. This makes single malt significantly more expensive but with it comes more complex flavors and a generally mellower profile.

If you have to cut blended whiskey then whatever but if you're cutting single malt you're wasting your money.

In the USA and Ireland it's "whiskey", everywhere else it's "whisky". I prefer it with the "e" to be honest, it looks kinda weird without it.

Ice is divisive. Some people say it "opens up" the whiskey, others call it "diluting" and turn up their noses at people who like it on the rocks. Either is fine really, but some people out there have very strong opinions on the matter.

FirstAidKite posted:

Jameson isn't inherently bad. Some of their offerings are quite good, but their basic whiskey is pretty bleh. I've never tried the one you had, but I just checked reviews and they're mixed.

Since you said you liked the smoothness, I rattled off a few highly regarded "smooth" single malts. Without getting into too much detail, single malts (whiskey made at a single distillery from only malted barley) are generally considered better than blends like Jameson. Also, you should be wary of anything without an age statement - age doesn't imply quality and all that, but no statement usually means it's cheap crap.

I don't know anything about Japanese "sex cinema" as a subject but I've seen some weird movies like one that was basically Japanese Get Carter but with soft core scenes every fifteen minutes. And soft core seems to drive a lot of Korean films as well. It's not at all like American soft core which it's Cinemax level scripts "oh, the pizza guy is here with my extra sausage" these are straight up drama/action films but the act breaks are always loving.

Whiskey is like music, pick a 'genre' (bourbon, blended, single malt, islay or speyside if you're into scotch) and branch out from there.

Jameson is fine but it's not particularly remarkable. You can do worse though.

Nah, the beauty of mixed drinks is that you use cheap ingredients and I'll never order a mixed drink at a fancy restaurant because they intentionally don't stock rail drinks.

Old Overholt or Buffalo Trace are my go to for rye and bourbon mixed drinks.

e: It's kind of funny how you an go to the website that hosts these comics and scroll back just a month or so to find the previous artist's work, which is super sappy and has bland jokes. Then you get a shift where the art style is way different, the punchline is that the comic is now having a Snapchat filter applied, and every weekday comic after that has a sense of humor that is more in line with my own.

Equip both Charge of the White Bear and Spartan Charge as your light runics. When they do that little side dash you know they're going to probably come out with that unblockable punch, so either dodge or light runic your way through it, staggering immunities from charge.
