Price is $9500. I wonder how much it cost them from auction.

KakerMix posted:

There is no way they spent more than 3500 at auction for that.

Late, but if you assume $3k for all the fees, and if they made sure it was running well, then it’s not a crazy price? Am I wrong?

3500 would be quite a high price for it at auction but assuming they did that's a final price of $6500, much less than their listed price.

Keep in mind that Japanese Classics doesn't do anything to their cars. My Acty van I bought from them had worn brakes, bad tires and non-functional AC. They simply buy nice examples from auction and puts them up for sale.

Can I drive my Canadian licensed sub-25 year old JDM import into the USA without it being crushed into a cube?

I know that Canada has more relaxed rules about importing foreign cars into the country than America does, but do these rules apply to the car simply being on the road (being registered in another country) as well?

By international treaty if a vehicle is legal in its country of registration, then signatory nations must allow it on their roads. Canada and the US are signatory nations.

You're fine unless you attempt to import and register it in the States before it turns 25.

Yeah, you can drive it here while visiting. It just can't stay here if you, say, move here, even if it's registered to someone still in Canadia. Exception would be someone in the US on a temporary visa, I believe.

I believe it's up to a year, as long as you're in the country with it. If you leave, it has to as well.

Note that with typical vehicle importation it’s done with the Roll-on/roll-off system which means that the vehicle you buy will typically be running and can’t have any major leaks. It also means that your vehicle will arrive fully drivable with the battery connected and fuel in its tank.

They aren't transported in containers, they are transported in big ol' floating parking garages. The two major considerations for how expensive shipping is going to be is size and weight. Height is more important than width, both are more important than weight. To ship my AZ-1 is $556. Hilux Surf, $1177. Lite Ace, $1277. That Hijet I bought a while ago, $866.
You won't save any money on the ship journey across the ocean because they don't care if you have two cars or not.

Where you will save is if you are going to have someone pickup your vehicles from port and bring them to you, those guys love to have more vehicles at one stop. I find that most of them can transport 3 at a time so if you max them out they only have to make two stops for the day and you can score a killer deal because their operating costs drastically fall with a single full delivery.

Awesome, awesome info. I definitely think when I go for it going to try to get three at the same time, to cut down on that big expense of getting them from port to TN. Thanks man. Will binge the thread again a few times before I pull any triggers. Need to set up a deposit with JCD.

It is a super good price, but I only tossed around $1200 USD at it cause I really shouldn't have been trying to buy it anyways, went to bed before the auction was over. Also it has a B engine, which is the 3B's grandfather and essentially a dead end.

Someone is going to make some money on that one. I just not prepared yet to bid. I know you didn't ask me specifically, but fire trucks are always going to be in excellent condition, will never have AC and if they are 'Toyoace' trucks they will also have tiny itty-bitty engines. About 50% of the time they'll have 4 wheel drive, most of the time they will be diesels.
I don't know about the resalability over here, seems like you'd have to specifically get one of the mostly-normal pickup truck body types then someone could just have a red pickup, otherwise there is some pretty severe modification someone would have to do in order to make a camper or whatever out of one.

Do you mean low gearing?

Higher numerical ratios for final drive (e.g. 4.7:1 versus 3.54:1) giving higher engine RPM at a given speed are "low" gears. Higher output speed for a given input speed is "high" gearing.
