When tr+ launches, how much do you guys think threadripper 1 prices will drop by? Expecting fire sales?

The week before the refresh I saw a TR cpu for a little over $300 at microcenter. I'm assuming it was the lowest end model. I only saw the CPUs because that is where the ram used to be. Now the ram is locked inside a glass case in a different area. Thank you for reading. If you enjoyed this post please click the subscribe button below and let me know what you think in the comments.

LTT is great, in a unique way. Linus shows you the dumb poo poo people actually do when they get an idea in their head. The man has zero shame, and is simultaneously smart and stupid enough to make content that is really entertaining for a lot of people. You could almost call him a metaphor for AMD CPU design.

When I think of LTT I [Close video ad in 5...] "Hi, I'm Bill, and I'm an engineer here at Intel. Today we're working on making it so the user doesn't..." think of videos that are like this: "HEY GUYS today we're looking at the CORE i9 series of PROOHCESSORS" [SPONSORED BY INTEL] I kind of haven't been able to take him too seriously ever since he took money to do a video in his usual style promoting a line of CPUs while unable to remark that several of them were completely irrelevant because of Threadripper. That's kind of suggestion is what people are going to your channel for in the first place. If I wanted sponsored content I could just watch the Intel ads that also prelude his pieces.

Actually I go to his videos to watch someone use toothpaste as a thermal interface or to see someone try to hook a watercooling loop to a room heating rad. Do people actually go there for tech advice?

I watch his videos for tech-related amusement. Kind of like the Dude Perfect of tech videos. If I want actual hardware poo poo, I head to other channels like GamersNexus. edit: upon further reflection, I confess to that not being strictly true. My laptop is starting to make angry noises, and seeing as how it is May in the northern hemisphere, I'm looking at a repaste of my laptop. And based on their results of using liquid metal in a laptop video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdTsra-uLBI) I am strongly considering doing so before it gets into the hot months. I already have the conformal coating and Kapton tape from my other electronics projects. If not that, then I am actually considering getting some of that graphite TIM material they tested on their channel. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpphKzmDiJM) I am still afraid of using liquid metal for anything and everything owing to lack of experience, and while its thermal conductivity is not as good as liquid metal, it is still well far and beyond the capabilities of modern pastes. (Looking at 73 > 35 > 8.5 W/m*K for Conductonaut, the IC Graphite, and my nonconductive paste of choice, GC-Extreme, respectively.) I feel like LTT is the only place I would have ever found the former video, and if not for LTT, I might not have heard about the product in the second. SwissArmyDruid posted:I feel like LTT is the only place I would have ever found the former video Well yes, that's because Liquid Metal is a really bad idea for mobile devices. If you don't apply the perfect amount it will break surface tension during transport and spill a highly conductive drop of liquid metal over your laptop's mainboard, memory, battery. LM is also bad at filling air gaps/pockets that can be caused by mainboard/cooler flex because it doesn't stay liquid, though that may not be a case if your laptop case is solid. Any other non-conductive TIM would be a better choice and check the datasheet that it is rated for high temperatures. Some pastes like Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut are rated only up to only 80°C for long term use and dry out quickly if you put them in devices like MBPs which run into Tjmax under load.

I don't think there is anything wrong with L1T, and I think their content and GN's content are just about as good as each others, but I do see why GN would come up first. Mainly because I think that GN's content is more mainstream, L1T's content tends to be more niche and in some cases more in depth, but because it's more niche they are not as popular and not as many people mention them.

Linus is awesome. Some of his humor has been a little cringy at times (it's gotten to be a non-issue at this point), but he basically takes all those dumbass ideas in your head you have about computer poo poo just before you doze off for sleep at night and actually tries them. Most of the videos are shot in a tone where whatever stupid poo poo is being tried is automatically expected not to work at all then you get to see his boyish giddyness when it does. I remember me and my really tech savvy friend having some stupid loving nerd argument about how gpu riser cables can technically result in lower performance. A month later, Linus daisy chains something like 9 riser cables between a PCIE 16x slot and a 1080ti, runs benchmarks, and performance is basically the same +/- a few frames. Add anymore than 9 riser cables, and the card wont work but I guess some engineer on staff had some theory about as to why, and possible ways to potentially overcome that limit. Why you would ever want to or need to do that I have know loving clue, but his videos at least answers questions that would go unanswered otherwise.
