Doesn't some light weight regularly cut 31 pounds or something even crazier?

Which is impressive, if you can do it. She missed weight twice before this. Also she would have to cut 25lbs in less than two days.

Is it worse for your health to be a fighter who have lost your chin and gets knocked out quickly, or to be a fighter with a stone chin who takes blow after blow to the head over 3-5 rounds without going down?

Long term, probably the latter. As soon as you take impact damage to the brain, two things happen. First your body tries to clear the damage away, and second it tries to repair the damage. If you take more hits while the clean-up crew is in, the repair crew doesn't turn up.

clearly I'm not a doctor though

I'm not an expert either but my understanding is that they're not sure yet what specifically causes CTE. It has to be diagnosed posthumously, and they've found football players with many concussions who have no indications of CTE, and players with very minor records of concussions have massive CTE.

in my opinion its worse for your health to take a lot of trauma without having the chance to recover from it. i've been out cold a couple of times and if you ask me its just something the body does involuntarily to try to mitigate harm, its not necessarily indicative of long term damage on its own .. but even putting cte aside getting hit in the head more often just exposes you to more acute catastrophic risk like hemmorhages and seizures and whatever else

I.N.R.I
May 26, 2011
theres also things to consider like the quality of recovery from concussions that a person affords themselves too, if they're not savvy with the idea of recovery or feel pressured to keep training while they have a concussion then they can make it much worse for themselves

Sincere question:

She's an unranked strawweight who can't make weight. Why not just fight as a flyweight?

If she's walking around and probably training at around 140 anyway, why is she bothering with that weight class? Is it strictly so she can have a power advantage by failing to make weight? That doesn't seem like a sound decision, even for somebody who gets punched in the head for a living.

EDIT -- I just listened to an episode of Chris Jericho's podcast with Chael Sonnen and Sonnen told a story about CM Punk picking him and Ariel Helwani up to go to lunch in a three seater car and trying to get Ariel to go in the trunk (because Punk already had somebody else with him). This was the best part of the podcast by far.

she's 5'3" and has tiny little t-rex arms. thiccness aside, she should absolutely be a strawweight. she's basically the girl version of kelvin

Thank you, I just checked and it looks like if she moved up she would in fact have about a 3 inch reach disadvantage with anybody she was matched up with.

She had absolutely no intentions of making weight for that fight. Dominick Cruz was spot on; it was basically cheating

She looked legitimately fat in there too, not just fat for someone trying to make 115.

She has a really ugly style and looks like she doesn't actually care about improving, moving up the ranks, and getting the belt or anything like that. It's really unprofessional, but purposefully coming in a weight class up makes a lot of sense if your game plan is to walk through your opponents strikes, get a takedown, and then get a submission.
