Its pretty hard to kill Metzger's gang that early on. It's pretty satisfying when you finally do, though.

Also, if you really need caps you could just become a slaver yourself (don't do this).

Does the restoration patch add quality content. Because I almost feel like replaying fallout 2 but I also already think it's massively bloated.

After hundreds of hours of gameplay with no non-writing-related issues, I installed a Windows update the other day and now Fallout 4 suddenly runs at an unplayable framerate. Every other game is totally fine, it's just Fallout 4, no matter which save I load or what mods I disable. Even the main menu runs at about 4 FPS. Anyone else had this weird poo poo happen?

I played FNV before the first two games, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that my Benny execution method works just as well against Metzger in F2; seduce, then execute in bed. Granted this causes a huge firefight when you leave his room, but the door acts as a pretty good chokepoint and you have some decent weapons if you did the other Den quest to help that one mercenary group kill everyone during a party.

I'm kinda curious what a full-on slaver playthrough looks like but I kinda assume it just locks you out of like 80% of quests.

A Sometimes Food overstated it because some people took the Avellone-Obsidian divorce very badly and this is useful ammunition.

I actually took it fine, if you look back at my posts about it in the Pillars thread I was confused about why people were down on Avellone until the RPGCodex stuff.

And there's a significant difference between occasionally doing interviews with the staff of RPGCodex and surrounding yourself with a Nazi circlejerk and poo poo talking your former colleagues with a group of people openly speculating whether their Jewish ancestry made them more likely to have screwed you over.

Becoming a slaver turns you hostile to the NCR and traveling around that region of the map can be tricky as you run the risk of getting ambushed by Ranger random encounters. Most of the rest of the wasteland doesn't really change beyond what normally happens when you have an Evil reputation. Unless you're specifically trying to play an unrepentant dick there's not much point in joining. Pickpocketing then murdering everyone in the guild is much more lucrative, especially early on if you can manage it.

You can get some random quests to go on slave runs but they quickly stop being worth the effort - they're kind of like really early Radiant Quests, come to think of it.

No, there is a RPG solution - everyone knows lockpick skill lets you open locked doors, but most people probably don't know using it on closed but unlocked doors locks them.
So you can lock the inner and outer doors and not have to deal with all the slavers, just couple at a time.

Given that we know cannibals will happily eat synths thanks to Far Harbor, thus making them pretty drat human, one assumes the meat would age normally

Considering how over the top the cannibal animation is, I'm disappointed they didn't lean into it with lines about the races/characters you eat. Like mentioning a synth tasting like tofurkey, or complaining that Kellog has more metal than meat.

Sort of like the silly persuasion lines the pacification perk has. "Hey, buzz buzz"

I haven't been through all of the restored content but whats restored is a drop in the bucket compared to vanilla FO2. The EPA is like a second Sierra Army Depot (as far as I could tell from scale.) Other than that its individual quests and characters in the usual places.

I used this when fighting the Bishops (after sleeping with the daughter of course). Locked the door to Dad's office, trapping him and the mooks inside, then shooting them through the windows. I popped off a shot per round and moved back between windows and they couldn't target me.

But would the frame underneath grow? Kid Synth Shaun is said to never really grow up by institute scientists. Would he just remain the same size while his skin eventually sloughs off?

I'm playing Far Harbor and while Dima is pretty cool I think it was a mistake to start toying with the "am I a synth?" theory now despite it never coming up in the main game. It's like how the extended cut of mass effect 3 toyed with the indoctrination theory to court controversy even though there was no intention of that being the case. In both games it just muddles the writing to try and be mysterious but just ends up vague and unconvincing.

Also considering how big a part Nick and Dima play in far harbor you'd think they'd have taken more time to voice coach the VA to sound like Nick again. He's way off.

If they had just reused the Talon mercenary company people would've accused them of being lazy, so they changed the name and the logo and literally nothing else :downs:

Not that it's a terrible idea to have a vaguely hostile rival merc group pop up here and there, mind you (its not like you can join the Regulators in F1 or the Khans or the Enclave in F2) but the way they used them as basically raiders with better guns was pretty slapdash.

Azhais

The Gunners are just dumb. Unless someone has hired them to just murder everything that moves in the Commonwealth, they're literally just reskinned raiders. At least the Talons being after you made since cause someone in theory hired them because you were a goody two shoes.

Seriously, just slap a contract on the odd dead gunner and I like them 100% more, otherwise they should have just been another side faction you could do quests with. Choose them or the Minutemen

Neurolimal
Nov 3, 2012
I wouldn't have been that satisfied with "they're a part of Talon" either imo. Their reason for being hostile was because a shadowy Chaotic Evil guy wanted the wastes to stay lawless. They've kind of already failed in the commonwealth there.

As I recall the gunners do serve as evil mercs, there's a few hired gunners escorting some of the vendors and all. Other than that they did just mostly seem like "more disciplined, better armed" raiders.

It's arguable whether a lot of the cut content in the Restoration Mod counts as "cut", anyway. IIRC a lot of its additions was more or less completely designed by the modders based on interviews and design documents. Dunno if Kaga counts, though.

That's not to detract from the mod, by the way, if anything it makes it more impressive.
