I dunno. I'd guess a "good" return would be a top 4 defenseman who doesn't carry an obscene cap hit, and maybe a top 9 LW. High ask though.

Justin Faulk (26), Victor Rask (25), pick, prospect
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (26), Max Domi (23), pick/prospect
Dougie Hamilton (24), Sam Bennett (21), pick, prospect

Basically, I think they would need a top defenseman in his prime, a younger secondary scorer who could benefit from the Pens center depth, and another asset for the Pens depth because this obviously isn't going to be a 1-for-1 trade.

Listen. I know everyone wants Dougie Hamilton to get traded. He's not getting traded.

Sherring is right, though. You can’t just spill embarrassing poo poo then say “off the record.” That’s not how interviews work and it’s not how journalism should work.

That said, she might have a hard time getting future interviews. That’s on Alfie, though.

The second part is why her excuse for the first part is dumb.

Person A: Tells reporter in person their immediate feelings about their job and boss to explain the situation while subsequently trying not to flare existing drama.

Reporter: Prints actual words to create drama. Loses the trust of a lot of sources. Mystified that no one will talk to them anymore.

Drama bombers are the worst reporters.

Nah man, that's dumb. If you're talking to a reporter, you're talking to a reporter. Alfie trashing the owner is a good story and she's well within her rights to publish it. Alfie has dealt with media for his whole career and should know better.

She knows the risks of access but anyone calling her out for this doesn't understand journalism.

reporter, blogger, w/e. Don't say poo poo to people interviewing you if you don't want it made public.

Going off the record is also an agreement, not a declaration. The reporter has to agree to discuss things off the record, and typically it can never be done retroactively.

If you say so. This isn't a politician we're talking about who answers to the public. It's a person in a private conversation about a private business. All she did was guarantee she won't get them again just so she could get Melnyk at Alfredson's throat in the public eye this one time. Which I don't see helping the Sens since joe blow has been bitching about this topic for a lot longer. Doesn't really add anything and just makes the stupid situation even more stupid with a nice helping of drama.

Thus they're not logical trade partners, but does the exchange seem about right? Carolina's owner might be dumb enough to try to prove something and make the playoffs this year, but those destinations don't make much sense. Of course, it seems like the right place for Kessel right now is Pittsburgh.

I think that if your trading a player with a name, you're overpaying. It's not that he's not worth it, it's that you either need your players to even have the cup run you're trading for, or you're not going to win anyways and they're your future. If Pittsburgh ends up being sellers at the deadline he'll be traded, otherwise Pittsburgh needs him.

Fine.

I still think she's dumb. When you're one of a billion bloggers talking about a given topic (in this case hockey) and you get access to people to talk to them candidly for scoops (thus differentiate yourself from the other people who just fart opinions on twitter and the like) why you would pick the dumbest scoop to run with and then burn the bridge behind you? I mean, whatever. He should have said it at the start and agreed. Now it won't matter since he and probably most of the Sens front office won't talk to her again. That's what I don't understand. Of all the things to pull the "uh uh uhhhhh you didn't say the magic word!" that's the one she went with.

Ohio State was somewhat understandably annoyed with an arena going downtown when they'd just poured a shitload of money into building the Schottenstein Center, so it already presented competition for concerts and such.

That said, it was basically a lot of politicking and backroom poo poo trying to quash the expansion because god forbid anyone challenge the OSU brand. They'd already killed the Columbus Chill and made sure the Crew were shoved out to the outskirts of town. The Jackets were just another target. Chill Factor is a great read about how the Columbus Chill did their absolute damndest to deal with both the challenges of being a minor league team, and OSU's bullshit. It's really worth a read.

Vegas has 50 mil on the books for next year. Lets assume the cap is 80 mil. Thats 30 mil to spend

They need to resign Wild Bill, Miller, and Theodore as RFA. 10 mil combined for all 3 of them? The Ryan/EK combo is 13.5 mil. Lets say Sens eat some of that down to 10 mil. Vegas can than sign Tavares with the rest of that money. Have to let Perron and Neal walk but w/e
