Complete reverse-of-reality.jpg comics, like the "democrats are behind Trump's car tariffs" ones, especially ones that jujitsu blame. I think these are worthy of note because as opposed to distraction or misleading statements, these sorts of nonsensical thought-terminating car bomb arguments are out of the alt-right playbook, and their entry into politoons serves as a barometer for their broader entry into public discourse. Jurgan posted:I stopped making the "born this way" argument when I realized it could be applied to pedophiles as well. The standard should be whether it does harm, not why the person wants to do it. that's part of it but really it boils down to the science about this stuff being VERY shaky and so all these 'trans women have the same brain patterns as cis women' things can super easily find exceptions and reasons to gatekeep and completely erases the concept of nonbinary people and all. Like, sexuality and gender and such is incredibly fluid for most people in a lot of weird wiggly ways, trying to say 'my gay values are exactly at this point so I'm valid' kinda completely misses the point of the entire movement. It makes a really hosed up system where your own allies can expect you to 'prove' your identity just like the losers who hate you.

Jay Rust posted:I don’t quite get it. What does a Sonicbot have to do with the previous panels? The born this way argument was understandable at the time, but it has this implication that being queer is bad and we just tolerate it. This is not to say that EVERYONE chooses to be queer, but that the sexuality and gender is a bit more complicated than that.

Jay Rust posted:I don’t quite get it. What does a Sonicbot have to do with the previous panels? Basically, it makes no sense for someone to be born as a furry/Sonic-fetishist/whatever. The comic is making the argument that gay and trans people are the same - that it develops during life as the result of a choice or of nurture, not nature. (Psst, the alt-right want to put them on metaphorical trains to literal gas chambers, and killing people for how they were born hasn't been cool since the 40's.) I know that wouldn't magically make the actors not racist/sexist/horrible, but it seems like a quick way to cynical way cover up the problem so I'm surprised it doesn't happen. If they did that, you could expect a flurry of ABC CENSORS ROSEANNE! headlines and WHAT ABOUT FREE SPEECH YOU LIBERAL FUCKS? cartoons from the likes of drunk duck. It shouldn't be necessary for a show/studio to have to tell somebody not to equate a noted, accomplished black woman with a monkey. That so called "common sense" conservatives love to rave about should have taken care of that for them.

"Mercedes Apologizes to China After Posting an Advertisement Quoting the Dalai Lama" China’s state media said the apology “lacks sincerity and reflects the German carmaker’s lack of understanding of Chinese culture and values.” The ad quoted the Dalai Lama saying, “Look at situations from all angles, and you will become more open.” "The Pope Genuflects Before China" The Vatican has agreed to recognize several bishops approved by China’s officially-atheist Communist Party. "Trump Cancels Summit with North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un" "China’s Communist Party Remains Strong as Tiananmen Anniversary Approaches" Chinese troops crushed massive, student-led pro-democracy protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989, killing hundreds, perhaps thousands. Because of his portly bearing, China’s current leader, President Xi Jinping, is often depicted as Winnie the Pooh.
