You know I'm not really a fan of celebrity culture where people watch like kardashians or whatever and are all "oh gosh I wish I had a house like that and glamorous friends", but watching those cup antics makes me go dang I wish I was doing that.

So, during the finals I found out my wife never saw D2: the Mighty Ducks.

So we got the movie and re watched it.

Definitely a different feeling now that I’m older. But whatever, it’s pretty funny to watch still. The plot is definitely not as air tight now as when I was a kid.

But! Bash Brothers are awesome!

They totally let an injured kid play through his injury

The refs call none of the obvious obstructions, so you know they got legit NHL referees.

Apparently you can just change jerseys between periods.

As I remembered , the girl goalie gets Shafted until the final shootout. Lame.

Keenan Thompson going “it’s knuckle puck time” is just weird to watch now.

This is hard to quantify, but it just felt like a “90’s” movie.

And FYI, if anyone has watched the Dare Devil Netflix reboot, the actor who plays Foggy is absolutely one of the two bash brothers. I died laughing once we figured out why he looked familiar.

For me the biggest takeaway watching it as an adult is how bad the kids actually were at hockey. Like, I remembered watching it as a kid and being like "holy poo poo I wish I was that good" and then as an adult I'm like "ehhh those are some somewhat bad 13-year old skaters"

This isn't strictly a hockey thing and just applies to any pop culture but man it feels fuckin' weird to have the time you grew up in and feel that connection to (because you were a teenager then and had STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT IMPORTANT THINGS) basically be a joke these days

But then again it pretty much happens to every generation so all those drat kids laughing at my childhood will get theirs when they're approaching 40 and a mid life crises and their hockey team hasn't won a cup in decades :argh:

08- Flyers in 7, Round 1.
09- Penguins in 7, Round 2.
10- Canadians in 7, Round 1.
11- Tampa in 4, Round 2.
12- Rangers in 7, Round 2.
13- Rangers in 7, Round 1.
14- Adam Oates.
15- Rangers in 7, Round 2.
16- Penguins in 6, Round 2.
17- Penguins in 7, Round 2.
18- No one.

We don’t talk much about 2014....

If the glorious victory did not sweep away these traumatic memories, the bender the team is currently on most certainly will.

I'm still in shock that we (DC) won something, no take backs 100% for reals. And it was our beloved but snake bitten Caps, no less. Now if the Wizards became the Bullets and not lovely then I would start to question the nature of my reality.

Is this what every post Cup bender is like or has Ovi taken it to another level? I’ve never paid attention in the past because I’m usually still depressed over the Caps disappointing playofff exit.

I got to sit down and talk to my dad last night and he also says it was his favorite championship from a team he's rooted for(Colts, Orioles, Ravens, Caps, I guess MD basketball also counts). Just a lot of things about it were special. No game 7 no overtimes, but it didn't need any of that. That last game was as good as any game 7 could have been.

e: ^^ This too. Bowman handed out some real stinker contracts that are now biting the team in the rear end *cough*Seabrook*cough*

Depends on how well he can transition to coaching a young team again. The last 2 seasons he has had a lot of blame rightfully put on him for punishing rookies more severely for mistakes and putting them in roles he knows they will fail at.

While this is true at times (mostly with respect to Kempny), Q also deserves some credit for the way for how Schmaltz and Vinnie improved in their second year. I also was glad he let DeBrincat stay in the lineup in spite of his slow start. As you and MikeV pointed out, Bowman's made some pretty big blunders the past few seasons. I'll never understand his generosity with NMC or that Seabrook deal. He's done well in finding some gems in Europe and in drafting forwards, but he's failed to restock the top-4 of the blue line with young talent.

Earlier this week Rocky Wirtz said he'd be willing to make changes midseason if the Hawks look like they did last year. Whether that means coach, GM, or both, who knows?

Great article. God that 2-0 loss was worse than anything I ever felt with this team. I felt totally done as a fan after that and barely even followed the regular season. It just felt like this era was over and now what?

Now my interest in the Caps and hockey is reinvigorated and stronger than its ever been.
