Finished Carlins WW1 history Blueprint for Armageddon. Finally got used to his mannerisms and voice. Really awesome stuff but I had to space it out with happy podcasts because its such a nasty event. Now im onto Ghosts of Ostfront and I have a pressing question: what in the world is that awful sound effect that goes on for 30 minutes? I'm old enough to know that these are the *bad guys*, its just really distracting that there's this mood-setting background music when words do enough of the storytelling. If anyone listens to The Trail Went Cold, can you tell me if the host every gets better at being a host? The content is interesting but this guy’s lack of radio voice is really grating. It’s like a podcast hosted by Emo Phillips’ Canadian cousin who smacks his lips between each sentence. I am starting from the very beginning, so I am still in the 2016 episodes

I don't really notice mouth noises much, so I can't comment on that, but his voice stays the same. I like the show but he's a little too in love with Unsolved Mysteries and is trying to match the voice style.

The trail.. Went cold." in a dumb way, but that's pretty minor. I agree that he's overly fixated with Unsolved Mysteries cases as well.

The Muslim empires were dealing with Crusader invasions in the west and Mongol invasions from the east, it wasn't a good time. I also didn't finish Painfotainment, which is a first for me.

Having audio clips available from the era is really a boon I think, though I'm still a fan of Carlin's famous quote voice. I'd like to see the Suez Crisis, Russo-Japan war, some part of the Russia Revolution (say foreign intervention in such) or even the Korean of Vietnam wars.
