So it's obvious that he really wants to be sociable and was starved of it in the wild, and he never learned how to and also is a bit paranoid about it with adults, so what he's ended up doing with adult cats is this, while they're distracted eating

Thinking on it, considering all the sizes we've bred dogs too, I'm kinda surprised that no one's tried to breed an extra big breed of house cat

The body language is so similar to my 15 pound idiot housecat getting petted and scratched in the same way, it's wild

The problem is, house cats already act like most big cats, and every cat owner has been bitten and scratched by their cat before. Now imagine it's a cat the size of a panther doing the biting and scratching. There have been attempts to domesticate big cats, especially cheetahs, but it's never been very successful. Cats were not domesticated like dogs were.

We have all these delicious mice we aren't even eating. Something was bound to move in. I bet there's an alternate timeline where everyone has adorable pet snakes they dress up in silly outfits. Oh, wait.

Yeah, one of my cats would probably have killed me (and some of my friends) already if she was the size and weight of a puma like that one. I love her and she loves me too, and she can be very sweet too, but she is often very aggressive, like some cats are Her aggressiveness Its actually kinda funny, because she is small and cant hurt us much even when she tries. It would be dangerous if she a big enough to do some real damage

To be fair the only reason cheetahs weren't domesticated centuries ago is because they have issues breeding in captivity and by the time we figured out artificial insemination we suddenly decided to start having ethics when it came to domesticating new animals(and we aren't even all that consistent about that), otherwise they are a nearly perfect candidate for the process Azhais posted:

Beating an ancient, sick cat with sticks because you enjoy hurting weak things that depend on you for their lives tells me everything I need to know about what kind of human being you are, and we don't need you. I can't wait until vat-grown meat becomes viable so I can enjoy a good steak without wondering whether the supplier was extra-lovely to the cow.

Pretty much - and the cats that could tolerate human proximity and vaguely socialize with humans were tolerated more often. Kittens also have a smaller 'window' for socialization with humans compared to puppies - a few weeks versus a few months. When you combine that with the fact most people don't try to socialize their cats or train them like you would dogs people often think cats aren't domesticated. I'm hoping to open some kitten classes once I finish my phd - they are so fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EX01b9zQ8w

The bossy kittens would also do that to the friendly kittens when they didn't trust me. Friendly kitten would be ive playing with me and body kitten would come over, give me a dirty look, and rub against the friendly kitten to push it away from me. When they grew up, they would do the same thing when I had soft food, just without an eat-poo poo-and-die look, so that they would be the one closest to the soft food. Maybe it was just thing that group of cats learned, though.
