On a purely metaphysical level, its equivalent. On a psychological level, the reason people believe in god is because it projects a moral foundation onto the universe, that it doesn't have, and provides comfort in the face of an uncaring world, were bad people get away with their crimes and the innocent punished. Roko's basilik or simulationism inverts that, and projects either a petty & vindictive super intelligence as the god figure, or leaves it as the result of bored aliens. Which betrays either a personal desire for retribution (thats fundamentally malicuous or immoral), or someone only concerned with upper class ennui.
