It seems like they fixed the bug that made the game unresponsive after a research Pokémon encounter. That almost ruined squirtle day for me.

What's the limit on the number of friends you can have?

Also I caught an Aerodactyl today, which was the first one I've seen. Sadly his stats are fuckin awful. All of the fossil-types were my favorite when I was a kid, but I've never seen any of the others. Are they special spawns or something? I really want to nab some Kabutos.

Oh man this spawn change is great, actually getting pokemon I want to catch around me vs the 2 years of Youngster-tier crap I’ve seen.

Seems like it's either more bugged or a new feature:

After you complete a research encounter, it goes straight into the research backlog. A good idea would be to bank 100 or so so you can catch them when on a lucky egg / star piece. Something to when between raids on when hitting your 7 day streaks.

200 friends on your list.

You just missed a rock event where Kabuto and Omanyte were everywhere and Aerodactyl was available via research. All of three can be shiny and can be found in raids. Aerodactyl is a soloable raid https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/aerodactyl-solo-raid-guide

Dammit, lol of course I choose to come back right after that. How often do events like that cycle around?

I have to find some good raid spots, there's a place like 5 minutes from me that almost always has two going on at once but I've literally never seen a single other person fighting in them, and I'm pretty sure I can't solo a raid.

Those themed events are once a year, so better luck next time.

Echoing the good spawns, they actually feel like they're interesting and cool, wish the game was like this all the time, the sheer number of lovely Normal spawns is way too much.

Seems like instead of corraling nerds into a dumb stationary pen they're actually using the lengths of Lincoln Park and spreading things out to let people walk around and play the game.

Unfortunately it's a bit rainy in Chicago today but they seem to have tents set up and it's also not super hot outside.

I'm really impressed by how many small upgrades they've made in the past two years, they fixed so many of the things that made me quit. I'm sure I'll run into new annoying things after the new car smell has worn off again, but it's a lot more playable now.

Only issues I have are the network still sucks balls, and always starts sputtering at the worst possible times, and the gym fighting system still isn't much fun, which is a shame because it has a lot of potential. Already very tired of every single gym in the world having a 3k Blissey as the gatekeeper, though. What are the best options to bring against that? I feel like I see that the most by far, followed by some combo of Gyrados, Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Hariyama.

Machamp and Hariyama are your best bets with dual Fighting moves.

Beyond that, whatever is your strongest DPS is fine. I usually don't even bother going after gyms unless the defenders are low on motivation.

Crosspeice

If you've got a few friends you can take gyms down no problem. If you're by yourself then trying to do it is a waste of time. Just go for gyms with Pokemon with low motivation, or just hope some gyms of your team have some spots around. There's no real meta to gyms, since you can take out any combination of Pokemon with enough time and healing items, so the idea is to make the gym as unappealing to take down as possible. But not too unappealing, since you want your Pokemon to come back and give you coins. Just save your strong Pokemon and items for raids and shove shinies or rare Pokemon in gyms, it doesn't matter really.

Machamp with Dynamic Punch is the main Blissey counter. The downside is a lot of Blisseys pack charge moves that are strong against fighting types so you will have to dodge making a long fight even longer.

Everyone should have at least one maxed out Machamp with counter/dynamic punch. Machamp vs Blissey is a tired old song and dance but it's the quickest way to bring them down. Machamps are also good against common gym fodder like Snorlax, Slaking, Rhydon, Aggron and Tyranitar.

Got to do my first raid ever since for once there were some people around. Fought Lugia, won by throwing a shitload of pokemon into the meat grinder, and then he escaped all 9 of the raid balls, all of which were curve balls, 7 of which were great, with a berry.

Was I just seriously unlucky or is that what I should expect from raiding? Cause...that kinda sucked.

It’s kind of crapshoot, you really just need to do them a lot. I’d say I catch about one out of every two legendaries, making mostly great curveballs with golden razzberries.
