That's 151 bar at 15 amps, the K7 only slightly beats that on a 13A plug.

And I found the K7 available for less than £400, which is very tempting after the motor ate itself on the cheap one.

But who am I kidding, I'll probably buy another £40 jobbie, maybe from Aldi this time.

If all you're doing is blowing road filth of your car and driveway, the 40 pound jobbie works great!

Pre drilling vs not. Self tapping screws need a pilot hole so they can tap their own thread

Some self-tapping screws are also self-drilling and don't need a pilot hole. The key is that self-tapping screws will have sharp & hardened threads and/or a flute up the threads to tap the material receiving the screw. Self-drilling may or may not self-tap but will have a distinct tip that is fluted or winged. Functionally, the difference between the screws only matters in thicker material where self-drilling-only screws won't hold well but self-tapping will. With sheet-metal where probably 95% of these screws are used it doesn't really matter.

I used to work for a fastener company. This is the right answer. Also, self tapping screws will tap themselves to a standard machine thread pitch.

This is definitely not not the right place.

Zero turn and measure any gates you have to go through. A bigger deck is really only worth it if you’re mowing tons of grass.

Zero turn is great but there’s a huge jump in price for the same width deck, and if you plan to use the thing for anything but mowing, you might want to consider getting a conventional tractor style mower.

Also, fabricated deck > stamped deck, but you’ll pay a little extra for that as well, just depends on how much mower you want to have.

All that being said, three acres isn’t a ton, a moderate size mower should do fine, like 42” or so. Obviously a larger one will now it all faster, but at that size the time difference is less significant. Also, for that size lawn, and your other usage of the mower aside, I’d leave the zturn/conventional decision up to how complicated the lawn is. Is it basically an open rectangle? Go conventional. Are there lots of planters and trees and obstructions to dodge around? Zturn will save you a ton of time.

I do 1.5 in about an hour on a $1200 ariens (husquvarna w a different sticker) 46" tractor. My only regret is that I didn't spend more for a little higher quality mower.

My neightbor has a high end zero turn and he can do a better job faster.

Yeah, you definitely get what you pay for, although sharp blades and a level deck will go a long way. If your lawn isn’t nice and flat to begin with, at least get a mower that has wheels on all four corners of the deck or you’ll be scalping all over the place. If your terrain is really wavy, you’ll still see some, but it won’t be as bad as otherwise.

There is (or used to be) a small engine thread over in AI where one could get advice on lawn equipment.

Biggest downside to zero turns is the fact that you need to have both hands on the controls. Think of all the multitasking you could do with a conventional riding mower and having one hand free?

And texting!

Trying to get my shop in order, so I need a plan. I do a bit of everything, but it's mostly woodworking for the big tools. Trying to leave some open space and room for growth.

That big rectangle in SW corner is my cnc router. Tablesaw and bandsaw together in the middle because I can have power and dust collection drop down on the bandsaw's pillar. Jointer, planer, and drum sander clustered together north of that also for a shared power/DC drop. Big fuckoff DC in the NW corner to provide for the two tool clusters and the entire west wall. The long bench on the west wall is intended to be the home for all the various bench top tools that may or may not need DC. So like, grinder, drill press, a couple bench top sanders of various types, wet wheel, etc. Possibly the miter saw, although I'm thinking a long, open bench along the east wall for the miter saw so I have plenty of space on either side. Lathes in the SE corner of the stairs that go to the attic, although I just realized that'd put them about as far away from where all my bench top sharpening stuff would live, but I can accept that.

I'm not sure if the car is going to live there or not. It's not a normal-use car, it's summer-only and is super tiny, 5'x12'. I'd like to be able to winter it down there in the shop so I can work on it and have full use of the house garage, but we'll see. If that car doesn't live there, likely my snowblower, lawnmower, etc. will live there, maybe the snow machine as well, at least until I get another shed just for that crap. That part of things is all up in the air, but I want to have the option.

I tried to leave open space where possible, that always comes in handy, and I'm hoping that the big chunk of open air between the lathes and the saws won't immediately disappear once I get everything else sorted out.

Anyhow, looking for any input on this.

Same. I have close to that size of my garage, but about 1/3 of it is filled with stuff, the other 2/3 with cars. I'm thinking about buying a 12x16 shed just to get some garage back.

In this case, it’s a steel outbuilding. Previous owner had it plunked down one day (in clear violation of several HOA covenants) but nobody said anything and now nobody cares (and according to the state, the HOA doesn’t even exist anymore.) It was just a bare dirt floor, not even gravel, no overhead door, walls didn’t even come close to the ground in a lot of places. I’ve been slowly whipping it into shape (concrete floor, overhead door, attic access/floor, electrical, etc) and am at the point where I need to actually plan my layout.

Floor space is like clamps, though, you always need n+1. And I think that picture is deceiving: based on seeing all my bullshit spread around, there’s no way there’s THAT much free space. :/

Not a lot of time left, but Amazon Prime Day has a deal on a 36V Makita blower with two 5Ah batteries and charger for only $212.85.

Considering that two 5Ah batteries by themselves are $200, this is a pretty good deal. I will probably just sell the blower, since I don't need it, but now I have bigger batteries for my circular saw, and I'll probably buy a 36V cordless trimmer.

Did they actually dead short while underwater? I'd expect them to probably be fine. A common way to dispose of RC lipos is to put them in a bucket of water and add a ton of salt so that it actually becomes conductive enough to slowly drain them.

My dog pulled them off the shelf where they were charging and dropped them in his water bowl. I found them fully submerged with the chargers blinking and error code. After leaving them to dry overnight I tested them on a drill and they seem to still be working. Anyways they haven't exploded and I'm certain everything is 100% perfectly fine.
