Foreskin Remastered's Steam store page is up. There's an Xbox One page as well, if that's your jam (sicko). It'll also be on GOG, but that page isn't up yet so I can't link to it. If anyone does have a link, please provide me with it and also next week's lottery numbers.

Anyway! Twenty bucks, July 31, probably decent if past remake history is any indication.

The poof effect when the items sprout legs reminds me of mimics transforming in New Prey. Someone could make a mod that spawns random mimics that try to blend in with decorations and items.

actually, that won't be necessary.
I’m sure it must have already been discussed somewhere in this thread, but my brain just snapped back to loving Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold.

Why the hell did it even exist? We (myself and the few other dorks in rural nowhere with computers) were so hard up for games that we played the whole thing when one or another of us got ahold of the full version, NOT SHAREWARE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE.

Perhaps what’s most upsetting is that I remember there was a level where, looking at the map, there were “arenas” or something that we never figured out how to access. Maybe it wasn’t even possible. drat if we didn’t try though.

Personally, I vastly preferred Blake Stone over Wolfenstein 3D. It had a few features that helped it stand out in my mind (things like vending machines, friendly NPCs, weirder enemies, and lifecycle stuff like eggs and monster pods). It also came out a week before the original Doom, so there was technically a time when it was the best FPS I'd ever seen.

Apogee wanted to follow up the huge success of Wolfenstein while using the same tech. Id were busy with some other game, but Romero recommended a couple of former co-workers from the Softdisk days and the game was afoot.

The plan was sound, but didn't quite work out - the game got delayed for a few months to make improvements and add features, which resulted in it coming out a week before Doom. Oops.

Does anyone recall an FPS game where the character says "Score!" when they pick up a bonus item or something? I've had the sound effect stuck in my head for like a week or two now, but I can't remember what it's from, or if it's even from an FPS game (only that it was something from DOS/early Windows-era).

EDIT: Maybe it was from a Doom mod. I know this is a weird question, but it's really bugging me that I can't remember where I heard it.

This is really weird, because the only thing I can think of is when you interrogate an enemy scientists in Blake Stone, which ended up getting mentioned in the time between your post and this one, for entirely different reasons.

But yeah, Blake Stone maybe?

This is kind of my goal for whenever I end up making either Doom music, or tunes for another retro fps: embrace the catchiness of old MIDI tracks.

I know it wasn't in a game, but Passport.mid is almost always in my head. But I love it, so it's fine.

What kind of "Score!" are we talking about here?!?

It's more like a quick, squeaky, exclamatory whisper, like someone who found a $20 bill in their pocket while remembering that they're in a library.

It wasn't Metal Slug or SiN (at least I don't recall anything from those that sound like it).

I watched through a couple of videos from Aliens of Gold and Planet Strike, but interrogating scientists just produces a buzzing-kind of sound. I don't think that's far off the mark, though, because I remember it sounding like Ad-Lib digitized voice.

The good scientists don't say anything when interrogated. The bad ones yell 'score!' and it's very much a recorded voice.

Yeah, that's what I heard too, but that's still not what I'm thinking of.

Again, I'm not sure if it's from an FPS game. It might be from a platformer or something when you pick up an extra life. It was something I heard in some video I was watching, and it got stuck in my head.

I like Blake Stone! It's got a neat setting and the weapons are satisfying to use. I prefer Aliens of Gold over Planetstrike, mostly because the new digitized weapons in PS look not super great and I wasn't fond if having to find that stupid bomb cube thing on every dang level.

So I can't seem to get SiN to work on my comp (either the Steam or GoG versions :( ) so I decided to fire up Sin Episodes again. Haven't played in at least 5 or 6 years. And...it's still pretty drat good! Maybe it's because I'm older and I've got a 4 year old but I'm starting to really like games that are short and sweet with no fat on dem bones. There's only 3 guns but they get some mileage, and they're fun to use. The alt fires are satisfying too. Level design is good, although I wasn't super fond of the submerged research facility all that much, but the SinTek tower is a total blast.

Now, I'm really not sure what prompted the bone headed decision to turn Blade into a silent protagonist, but at least now you've got two people in your ear piece. The performances are hammy as poo poo, which is awesome, and I loved the one other villain opposite Elektra. Baron Von Badguy or some poo poo?

Also, the soundtrack bops.

I like the big green mutants in Blake Stone that yell "You're dead!" when they see you.

Especially when they're usually saying it as they're falling over and dying because you nailed them with a plasma ball before they could react. The manual even makes a joke about this IIRC.
