I guess if they all decided to take a month off at the same time, that would explain why we haven't been getting updates.

I thought the vacations were required in sweden though.

In normal companies in the EU that also do 2+ weeks of summer vacation for their employees, they schedule them so the entire company doesn't stall because of it.

i looked it up after the last discussion about it, and basically the shot is that the law mandates that most jobs have to offer you a certain quantity of vacation, but there's nothing that says you have to take it at any one time. Contract employees are under a different statute that seems to get complicated quickly as most swedish people either don't want to talk about it or claim it says some pretty divergent things.

Fatshark saying everyone is taking a month off is not a matter of the law. It's a matter of tradition and careless corporate planning. The tradition part is understandable enough as a lot of people will want to take their vacation during the relatively short summer but the way the company has simply shut down is just the owners not giving a poo poo.

Yeah EU minimum is 20 paid vacation days, which don't transfer to the next year and have to be used. Nothing says you have to use them all in the summer.

US companies treat labor like an expense and not an investment in future revenue and its insane

It's an attitude not without merit.... though really, it depends on the skill of the labor, the ease / difficulty with which they can be replaced, and their level of investment in the company's success. Hence it is a very much an "individual basis" kind of thing, which makes it difficult to establish broad policies.

I've definitely seen it go both ways - employees who are utterly useless and should have been outright fired months ago still drawing paychecks, and also managers refusing to realize just how dependent they are on their top talent and refusing to treat them well (and then getting hosed when they leave for greener pastures.)

no the summer thing seems to be that sweden has good weather for something like 8 weeks out of the entire year so people want to take basically all of their vacation in that time period. being so far north it is otherwise cold, dark, or both for the other 46 weeks of the year

that much is understandable. what isn't is everyone loving off during that time period while there's work to be done and leaving 2 guys to hold the bag for you, that's kind of a dick move

I mean, I too share your observations, but that also services my point. You have a lovely employee, then its a lovely investment. You have a good employee, then you're a good investment. If we're pretending this "capitalism" bullshit has any merit at all, then this is the model for employer/employee relations.

Instead the prevailing notion of employers is to treat talent like an agnostic spackle, and the "win state" for an employee is to do as little work as possible while not getting outright terminated, and then getting another job in a year that pays a dollar an hour more. Those useless employees are actually low-key prodigies in a given organization, under the present economy. They know exactly what the con is. The hard workers who have talent and skill and are good at their job are the rubes.

Come to Australia. We get 20 vacation (and 8 sick) days standard. They all transfer and employers get itchy after a couple of years because they don't want to pay you out multiple months in one hit if you bail. Also we have nothing but Summer, Super Summer, and Hyper Turbo Summer: Champion Edition. Employers plan around people taking time off and no company just shuts down for a month because you'd lose all your business.

But hey, I'm sure in the Sep-Nov season there will be no new game releases and there's plenty of time for Fatshark to slowly patch it's currently broken games. I mean it's not like they'd be dumb enough to ignore their currently broken stuff for three months while they work on another port.

People always bring that thing up like it was supposed to be a big deal but I’m pretty sure it was just some 5-second change they threw in while fixing other things in skittergate, since it was kinda silly that the generators were made of tissue paper, and upgrading them to papier-mâché wouldn’t take any effort to do. It was just in the patch notes for the sake of completeness.

All my friends slowly burnt out until i was the last and now its hit me too. The quad loving specials being back is just the final loving straw--waiting for all 4 specials every time you hear the cue then being forced to wait for the horde only to get ANOTHER quad special spawn is infuriating. We literally got 6 specials at once on into the nest, 2 loving assassins inside each other, 2 pack masters 1 meter apart, and 2 goddamn globe rats inside each other. Coupled with the fact that QP is getting longer and longer to find players i'm sorry but gently caress this noise.

The DLC better come with massive gently caress off bug fixes and talent rebalances or i'm not buying it until they do.

Hmm...true. I'm not going to pretend I think it's a poo poo game when I've played for hundreds of hours, I love it, but I can recognize that they've burned a lot of goodwill with the community for seemingly no good reason. It's become noticeably harder to get Legend games going in QP. That's the least popular difficulty, but still. They need to step up their game and get some more fixes and improvements out, or it'll become a ghost town.

Did the DLC leak include a planned release datz?

Start off the evening with 3 bosses, 2 as Bardin, and 3 Quickplays to clear. Easy, right?

Load up Bardin and it takes me like 90 minutes to get two complete games. I still only have two QP completions and two bosses. I just got kicked from a game on my main because someone dropped a tome somewhere a mile away from me, unmarked, and I was kicked for not picking it up after some guy bitched on voice chat... after picking it up.

It'd be nice if they patched it not being matched with people on your blocked list because jesus christ.

I love this game, but there's a limit as to how many times I can play the exact same content over and over. I am deliberately winding way down - not stopping completely, but playing like once or twice a week at most. The friend I got into the game with kind of blows my mind - I swear he never, ever loving gets bored, and keeps wanting to play it like every goddamn night. I do not get people like that, at all. It's like the people still playing Counterstrike. How the gently caress do you enjoy the same thing over and over again eternally?

Me llamo Sarah Brandolino, the eighth Castilian of this magnificent marriage.
With Vermintide 1 that answer was easy. It was a game easy to play but excessively difficult to master and really make something of. But when you reached that point, everything fell into place. It became a cinematic wonder. No other game had melee quite like it. It was balanced, skill based obviously, and the banter carried the slow moments. A lot of maps did suck, absolutely, most of the original 13 were garbage. But all the DLC maps were far and away better, and a lot of the weapons were incredible. The enemy damage model and hit reactions were second to none. Not to mention the sound design on weapons and enemies didn't suck like it does now in V2.

It was good to get home from work or, when jobless, just chill playing all day, because there was always something to learn or something cool to do that you can't really do in other games. Any character with any weapon (well maybe not Mace & Shield cough) could shine in the right hands. Playstyles tied to hand-tuned weapons versus hand-tuned enemies mattered, and were varied enough to be really replayable. Then Lupo came along and built us mod support and things only got better from there.

But with Vermintide 2, I don't know. I think the only crowd left are those who get off on the gear score and all the caustic attitude it brings. That level of RNG gives V2 a higher average than V1 for sure from those people. And believe me, those are the only kinds of people still around because of what tiny conversation still takes place in the barren communities. It's all poo poo up by people who say things like "You deserve to pay for patches. The money you paid for the game doesn't pay the devs to maintain it." Or even better, people who trot out Borderlands to talk about the relative value of loot in Vermintide 2, and why mod realm needs to have progression disabled because easy-to-obtain items ruins other player's abilities to showboat. Literal quotes, by the way

tl;dr It's a compelling game, a very technical game, and can sometimes be very cinematic like its predecessor. It also has the kind of RNG that strings people along forever.
