So i've been browsing r/metal and it actually turns out they have a lot of good recs on there, but nobody on that subreddit seems to have heard of Gruesome or Alkaloid

there's r/deathmetal and its a lot better, doesn't have a bunch of trash to wade through, and obviously is focused on death metal.

I've been listening to more Cattle Decapitation lately to psych myself up for seeing them with Suffocation in a couple months.

I'm really digging the weird distorted clean singing on The Anthropocene Extinction, it has this creepy vibe that I really like.

Travis is a cool dude and really fun to hang out with at shows. Frank is also absurdly fun live so I'm trying to see this show if I can!

My first album was Humanure (I even have Humanure TP), and I have every album at this point, but Karma.Bloody.Karma, The Harvest Floor, and The Monolith of Inhumanity are their more accessible stuff. They're my favorite band and all their material has some merit to me, but it's also not everyone's cup of tea.

They stand out even in a genre that is aggressive by definition. I feel like the music has this vibe of barely restrained chaos and it really fits with their whole "gently caress humans" thing.

Also, totally unrelated, but I just want to say how much I love Bloodbath's "Brave New Hell". It's a fuckin' sales pitch for the zombie apocalypse! Come join the winning side, we have snacks* and immortality.

Their earlier sound was much more grind, I prefer their newer more death metal sound.

And yes, Travis is crazy, especially live.

Prowler... is like one of the best metal albums ever.

EDIT: A less "in-your-face" intro to grind would probably be World Downfall by Terrorizer

Prowler in the Yard is loving intense and great.

I didn't have much trouble getting into grind, but I started with Anal oval office.

A good way to get into grind is to start with something a little more "structured" like Cattle Decap (which is deathgrind) and then gradually you'll crave more and more chaos.

Then you'll get bored of grind and move to powerviolence like I did.

Actually now that I think about it, I think it was Cattle Decapitation's "To Serve Man" that got me started on the road to grind. Or Annal Nathrak
