It really wouldn’t do a lot of good if your flood insurance starts in 30 days, but the flood is tomorrow I doubt anyone allows a immediate coverage in that type of scenario.

Seriously I drank about 100 beers and all the whiskey during Harvey. You can't even play video games when the internet/power is out because everything is tied to some online service and there is only so much Monopoly you can play.

Echoing the stay safes. Harvey sucked and I was North enough to not have to deal with the worst of it. I hope it weakens before landfall.

The waves were big enough I could see them from my apartment 2 miles away, it's going to be exciting if the eyewall actually hits Honolulu. By exciting I mean I'm not gonna have power for sure and they're still gonna make me go to work on Monday

Friend of mine's in Hawaii right now, thought she was going to get to actually fly out tomorrow because the hurricane's going to miss the island, but noooope. Her destination was in California, and it's cancelled due to fire conditions.

Other parts of Maui are getting rain and/or wind, just lucky that Haleakala is blocking a lot of the weather so far. Lifeguards were probably mobilized in some central location and off the beaches so the general public didn't assume the beaches were safe.

The east-moving wind shear is disrupting the hurricane’s ability to turn west. Analysts are thinking that will cause it to slow down but continue moving in a more northerly direction, then abruptly turn west once the wind shear from the east weakens the eyewoll enough. Basically now the concern is not high winds or a direct impact on any island, but a poo poo load of rain from a hurricane stalling and hanging out in one place. Possibly like Harvey’s impact on Houston.
