The Go-tcha is great for driving, assuming you have low-speed parts of your drive. It's also handy if you work in a spot where you can reach one or more Pokestops, because you can just suck up items all day and only have to reconnect periodically when the game times out the connection.

Today was good and bad, managed to do a bunch of raids, caught a ton of mons, added some poo poo to my dex and got a really good shiny houndour. Bad part was most of the raids I did were Ho-Oh's and I didn't manage to catch a single one of them. Also I dropped a Weezing in a gym and go a notification about 6 hours ago that he was kicked out and bringing me 31 coins but he's currently glitched to be both not in a gym and not in my bag and I haven't gotten the coins yet.

Not sure what to do about the latter issue, if I can do anything at all. It's just a Weezing so if I lost it somehow I can live with that, but I want those coins.

I was finally able to get out for some Ho-Oh raids, and finally caught one. Both, actually - weather-boosted and 84%. I'm just sorry I could only get out raiding during the final hour. I would have liked a shiny.

I'm hitting the St Louis Science Center tomorrow so hopefully I'll have some rad dinosaur gifts to send around.

Went out for an EX raid today. Is it just me or is Mewtwo like way far back compared to other Pokemon? I whiffed like the first 3 balls completely which is nuts because I can curve like a motherfucker on every other 'mon. I managed to catch it but my wife didn't and was bummed. Upside is we already have another EX pass for next week. Ventured into town after the raid and snatched up Alolan Marowak, more Machamps, and a weather-boosted Ho-Oh.

We got a new member of the raid group who is way too excited though. Every single raid that popped in town today she was spamming messages asking people to come and then getting surly when people were like, "it's Saturday. I knocked out 5 raids today, I'm headed home." I guess one of the mods told her to temper her enthusiasm though.

Ho-Oh is such a nice change of pace from poo poo Regis though.

Unless they've changet the distance since my last ex-raid, i think mewtwo is at a fairly reasonable distance. Kyogre is the legendary that you need to use a mortar for to even reach.

Does the Go+ and/or Go-Tcha require you to leave the game up and running in your pocket? Or can you sleep your phone while the game was up to conserve on battery? It’s tempting, but $50... :catstare:

Yes it has to be running, but I do have my phone screen off in my pocket and it seems to work fine most of the time.

It's funny, I have an extra gotcha that I never opened because my go plus started working, and quite a few local people want to buy it, but they don't want to pay anything over $30, when all the ones I see online or closer to 50, and I'm only asking 40. Ah well.

Same, except this:

bowmore posted:

I'm not going to play while driving. Full stop. It's stupid and I know that the temptation is there even just to pick up my phone at stoplights or whatever. The $40 I paid was for peace of mind to never even bother.

I've had it about 2 months and Go Companion says it's picked up about 8000 items for me. Comparing that to the drop rates means it's given me over 5000 balls and 600 berries. There's no need to buy anything from the store so I use my daily free coins purely on bag upgrades and special boxes for raid passes.

It'll work with the game minimized, however it disconnects about every hour or so to prevent people from letting it run all day/overnight like you suggest. It's a pretty chintzy piece of hardware and is definitely overpriced but I play enough to have pulled more than enough value out of it already.

Maybe wait for that pokeball thing that's coming out. The support for Go+/Go-tcha has been pretty lacking up until now but it seems like the devs are putting a little more effort in with the new stuff coming out. It may be a little more worthwhile if they get it working a little better plus there's a chance that used ones may be available for cheap. The dark part of this device is that it can be hit or miss with connectivity, especially with certain devices. Mine occasionally stops connecting and I have to re-install PoGo to fix.

To me, the automation isn't playing the game for me. The occasional swiping to catch pokemon or spin stops isn't "the game", managing my team and resources and getting out in the world is. Going to the right places at the right times for gyms, raids, or tracking down new pokemon is the core of it and the Gotcha supplements that by doing the menial tasks in-between it all. If anything, the automation gives me more to do since I have a ton of extra pokemon to transfer, items to organize, and stardust to use for powering up when I'm sitting around at home. I still manually catch anything that's important so all it picks up are the things I wouldn't have bothered with anyway.

I did another batch of raids today and the first two weather-boosted got away from me, including the second one where I threw SIX excellent throws in a row. Everything was redeemed after that initial frustration because I ended up getting two shiny in a row on the next ones. Ended this weekend with 9/13 Ho-Oh caught, three of which are shiny. I think this bird likes me.

My community is EXTREMELY well-organized. I did 5 today in about an hour with a group of about 30+. It amazes me how efficient their system has become.

Also I think myself and everyone else just went nuts on it because it's not Regi- raids. I've only done 40 legendary raids total so this was out of the ordinary.

Yeah, I generally figure that the gotcha just gets me more resources to actively play the game while I'm out doing other stuff. I can hop in the car to go run errands, or head out for a jog, and then ignore Go but still get gains. :D

Find a stop the day before, force-close the game, change your phone's timezone (just the time zone, you can't change the actual clock time manually or it wont work) to somewhere that it's "tomorrow" and spin another stop. You'll get credited for tomorrow and can pick back up the day after.

The gotcha does not play the game for you, it does change the way you play the game though.

You'll be doing two things with the gotcha, farming stardust and farming items, both of which are grindy, menial tasks without it. Turn it on when you're driving or biking or whatever and let it passively soak up whatever you need at the moment (I set mine to Pokemon and Stops until I'm out of pokeballs, then just switch it to Stops for a while to build up my inventory again). You'll find yourself dumping a lot more items because the frequency of spins is so much higher that you're getting ultra balls and high level potions at a regular pace now. When you get home or whatever dump all the trash Pokemon you picked up for stardust and maybe find a rare/shiny if you're lucky.

The go plus (and by extension, the gotcha) are very limited in their usefulness, by design. They're great tools for making sure you always have the item you need, and they'll keep you rolling in enough stardust to at least power up your Pokemon at a reasonable pace, but that's about it. Two very good uses for sure, but that's really all it does.

Blew my free pass on a Ho-oh raid today, watched as the dumb thing broke out of excellent ball after excellent ball, then flee. Wasn't happy but poo poo happens, especially in this game, there's always tomorrow. Or so I thought until I remembered the Celebi research I was doing at the time gave a premium pass as a reward. There's a raid about a mile away with 16 minutes remaining, I get offered a lift by some friends, and I'm desperately hoping the 0.2km left on my current egg will tick over in time and get me the pass. It does so about 20 seconds away from the raid, I get my pass, I get a really good Eevee, and I get there in time. To top it off it's windy weather ingame with only a few minutes before the weather changes. We easily win since there's so many of us, I take one look at the Ho-oh it tells me to catch and I say to myself "Bet that's a poo poo one."

Long story short,

I'm an idiot :v:
