Watched the hbomb video on speedruns. I know they do some nice charity things but speedrunners really seem like the majority to be broken with severe emotional issues and similar to obsessive compulsive disorder. That weird guy freaking out because a load screen took too long and then orgasming when he did something fast just seems hosed up to me.

I think if you spent hours doing a thing you would be rather excited when you finally became the best at that thing. There has to be a breaking-point for dudes trying to one-up each with Ocarina and Mario 64 . Nostalgia must account for their speed running prominence because the N64 was a pretty crap console for the time: lack of third-party support, lack of RPGs, tiny game size-limit, weird controller...

Interesting channel I have not heard of that goes through more cinephillic content than popular movies. Will have to check them out. I think that youtube channels exploring metaphors are important - I can get the idea of them but it's very difficult for me to pick them out myself. I don't think my mind can identify subjective nuance that well, and watching things just to find them and understand something that won't give me the immediate gratification of an identifiable story isn't my idea of a good time. But that's the good part of youtube, where experts in fields can make videos to share their experience, and maybe others can pick up some new ways of thinking that they would not have been able to pick up before.

In the defense of Anthony Fantano (AKA, Nothony Meatano): It's been a long time since he's interacted or hosted someone like Sargon or Sam Hyde. He seems better about stuff like that nowadays. Despite getting flack from his fans, he's actively political on Twitter usually advocating for socialist causes like Medicare For All. If he went back to rubbing elbows with Sargon, I'd drop him, but he's improved and uses his Twitter for a lot of good.
