yeah I mean, as much as Oliver Stone might have sought to vilify the subjects of his biopics, just depicting them as human beings and not the vampiric non-human trash monsters they actually were is always a step in terms of humanizing the subject. these are people who abandoned their humanity a long time ago. Nixon came off as more sympathetic in Nixon, W in W, it's unavoidable when you do poo poo like that. Similarly it's hard to make anti-war films that don't just "look cool", i.e the failures of Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket as compared to like, Jarhead.
Do I trust Adam McKay? lol I dunno. not really. oh well.

Like this poo poo already presents him as too "cool". He's got Christian bale playing him and it's not really clearly presenting him as a completely black and white villain when a complete black and white villain was absolutely what he was
He's just "ruthless".

Do you know why trailers exist? If you show him as a menacing villain how likely do you think that half the country sees this film?

Punkin Spunkin

That's a plausible argument, absolutely, I just don't expect it'll end up being the case. Any treatment of Cheney deserves absolute abject black and white brutality in its merciless depiction of him and I'm not expecting that from this teaser, cast, or director.

It's nice to see DC trying, at least. Unlike Marvel the strength of their stuff is not shared universe crossover appeal but rather doubling down on the pure fantasy aspect.

Aquaman looks like big bombastic fun (albeit probably leading up to some boring overdone 3rd act superpowered fight/battle with no tension or drama like every other one of these things), but I just can't get over how much of a fratboy the titular character is. I do not want to spend 2 hours with that guy.

I mean, I gather it's not a straight-out horror movie and has more of a Wolfenstein bent to it. Hell's Bells is a perfect track with that in mind.

I want this movie to be good and do well but this trailer is bad. The most interesting bit is the Lovecraftian fish monster chase/fight whatever and the big undersea battle. Black Manta and his crew chasing Aquaman and Mera through the street looks like an upgraded cut scene from Prince of Persia. I get that they need to ground the story and get the origin out of the way but why frontload a 5 minute trailer with it? Very frugal of DC to re-use Daenarys' wig for Nicole Kidman's character.

Jason Momoa and Mera don't have very good chemistry, but he looks like he's having fun at least.

Free to roam the heavens in man's noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe!

Why does everything in Aquaman look so cheap? Like there's a certain plastic look to all the CG (which seems to be a lot) that just makes it look like some TV movie. I did laugh at the "we coulda just peed on it" line, though.

The long action scene with Manta on the rooftops looks great. Do agree that it gives the impression that the third act'll be an exhausting cgi slogfest though.

What's been frustrating with the DCEU is that almost each movie has something that works, something that shows that there is potential, but it's squandered just as quickly.

Man of Steel seemed to understand the idea of Superman being a symbolic ideal for people, something to aspire to, but that he'd be tortured by having the weight of the world on his shoulders, up until he basically started destroying everything. That's one area where I felt that Superman Returns, for all it faults, got the character better. Superman should be trying to save as many people as he can instead of breaking every bit of infrastructure he lays his eyes on while having an EPIC SUPER FIGHT against Zod.

Batman vs. Superman had a great opening, where it shows you EXACTLY WHY Batman would have a problem with Superman - he's dangerous, he's reckless, and fails to take into account the little people, and regardless of his intentions, good or otherwise, he's simply too dangerous if unchecked. I also actually liked that bit where Batman steals that chunk of Kryptonite off of Lex Luthor off-screen, because while it would have been cool, it's also neat to see the aftermath of a place where the goddamn Bat-Man happened.

I was enjoying Wonder Woman up until the Dragon Ball Z fight at the end, which just really made me disengage with the film entirely.

Justice League had its moments, like Flash being completely out of his depth and Aquaman being a total dudebro, but it was just an overlong slog.

Suicide Squad can go loving die, for all I care though. What an irredeemable piece of trash.
