The new TWDY reminds me a lot of 65daysofstatic's OST for No Man's Sky. Fuckin radical, can't wait to see them in a few weeks.

I ordered new others part 2 from revHQ and they sent me a whole additional record (anxiety answering by rescuer) and a flexi disc (territories by roman walls). who knows if I'll like either but it's always nice when stores do stuff like that

E: related, has anyone been to https://newothers.info/ yet? the seemingly giant gif, empty white screen and complicated page source code are very strange

three albums of unreleased solo electronic music from jónsi

23 NOVEMBER 2018

frakkur was the artist name jónsi used for his experiments in electronic music in the early years of the 21st century. working on his own, either at home in reykjavík, in hotel rooms on tour with sigur rós, or later at his boyfriend’s house in boston, jónsi spent endless hours diving into then-new bits of kit and programming, having fun and seeing how far he could push things, all entirely outside the bounds of his day job with the band.

the legacy is three collections of work totalling 24 tracks at 108 minutes - here collated into one triple album - each made a year or so apart, under slightly different circumstances and with different equipment.

I found a fan made GY!BE album on youtube. The dude basically combined Luciferian Towers and Asunder into one by removing the drone tracks and doing a bit of other fixing. It is actually really really good. Check it out

I'm not 100% sure (and please correct me if I'm wrong) but I think this may be their 2nd song with vocals ever, the 1st being The Hand That Holds The Truth off Rays Of Darkness which had the vocalist from Envy on it:

I'm putting together my favorite music of the year list and New Others by This Will Destroy You is on there, as is the San Holo album with the Caspian collab that I loving loved (though that's really more of an EDM record overall).

Did any other post-rock albums come out this year that were impressive? I feel like the genre was kinda quiet this year.

e: Deafheaven's Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is on there too, if that counts.

The new El Ten Eleven was fine but not really standout.

I had completely forgotten God Is An Astronaut even released an album this year lmao

e2: Although I'm relistening to New Others now and I don't even know if this should be on there. It's alright but it's not as good as their past work, and there were other albums from other genres that I enjoyed more than this this year.

Yeah, it was definitely a meh year for the heavyweights in the genre. My favourite albums where mathcore (Rolo Tomassi) and prog metal (The Ocean).

There was still some good post-metal/ rock though.

My favourites were:
Girih - Egengrau Spotify
Pjin - Loss Spotify
Talons - We All Know Spotify
Night Verses - From the Gallery of Sleep (instrumental prog) Spotify
Death Spells - Holy Fawn (shoegazey) Spotify
Noorvik - Noorvik Spotify
Toundra - Vortex Spotify
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving - No Tether Spotify
Ingrina - Etter Lys Bandcamp

I got a ticket to go see Russian Circles for what I think will be my 4th time seeing them (maybe 3rd?) in February. It's been 2 and a half years since the last album they put out (Guidance), but I guess they're touring after finishing recording their new album? Or maybe they're taking a break from recording it to tour?

Idk, they tweeted this in November but I haven't heard anything else about it:

Good list I missed most of these. Listening to the new Talons album now, I haven't heard them since their first one.

Hammock put out a new album and also the Far Cry 5 soundtrack which was pretty good.

I thought there was going to be a new Rosetta EP last month but it's actually going to be out on Friday.

Uhhhhhh woah, so I just found about this math-rock/post-rock band Covet through a Reverb YouTube video and I'm listening to their first album Effloresce now, which came out in July. I wish I had known about this album in 2018 because I would have put it on my favorite albums of the year list! It's really loving good!

In the Reverb video, the frontwoman (Yvette) was talking about how she was influenced by bands like American Football and toe, and you can definitely tell. Their sound has a very similar style.

They even have a song featuring San Holo on this album, and they're on Triple Crown, the same label as Caspian, who also did a song with San Holo recently! I love it when a bunch of great artists are connected like this! :monocle:

Oh yeah, that she did! Although while I adore that album and it was one of my favorites of 2018 by far, that song doesn't really sound anything like Covet. Maybe Yvette plays solo stuff too that doesn't sound like Covet? I don't know. But like with the Caspian collab, it was very clearly and identifiably Caspian.

I'm more of a fan of her acoustic stuff that's almost entirely her playing (she plays piano, violin, guitar, harp, sings, and I feel like I'm missing one or two). This specific live version of Of Age is my favorite thing she's done https://youtu.be/AmYPC0VnvGM

Speaking of Yvette Young's solo stuff, she just released this solo piano EP recently. It's not exactly post-rock, but it kinda sounds like if certain post-rock/math-rock bands played all their stuff on piano. It's real good!
