Got any deathsticks?
The real twist is that the Great War was actually a limited skirmish, but the USA got turbofucked by a vault full of psychopaths from West Virginia who found a nuclear stockpile so big they bombed the country back into the Stone Age on their quest for adhesives.

I am a bit sad still that I can't mod it, but I think I'll live. And have a underwhelming night sky, but I'll live.

I would totally be down with that kind of retcon! I always thought something like that would be really fitting for a world like Fallout's. Would be even better if the rest of the world was getting back to some semblance of normal around 2350 while the US was just constantly getting worse from morons hurling nukes around to settle petty squabbles and land disputes.

The servers will be down for the first 48 hours, game breaking bugs will prevent you from enjoying the game for at least a week and your friends will abandon you.

Quick question though, so I assume no regional pricing like other Bethesda games?

The first version of minecraft multiplayer had ridiculous huge bugs* and was still playable.

I have played a indie game that was disconnecting from the server every 9 seconds and it was still fun (the game was like space engineer, but made in java and more hardcore).**

If a sanbox game is fun, bugs can be tolerated has another “enviromental danger”

Edit:

furnaces not working properly or not working
no mobs
durability status is lost by dropping a item to the floor
dupe bugs

Hello my friends. I know some of us like the lore of these games (and it is rich and there is much) and that some people think that people caring about it is wrong.

By all means think that if you must, but this is ostensibly a thread about the game and the game's backstory/details are a part of that so people will want to discuss it and wonder about timelines and such.

Bethesda may not be as stricken to the rules as some other companies and this may lead to disagreements and confusion about how the timelines match up. If the discussion leads to slapfighting, then please report and we will do something. However if it is rather benign and you just do not want to hear about it, there is no need to start any kinds of fights.

It will be easier to discuss this stuff once the game is released and people understand the storyline of it.

Toronto (now Ronto) long since had its poo poo together by 2277 to the point where people as far as the Pitt have heard about it and there have been several high-profile postwar Canadian immigrants in the NCR

That must have been part of the content involving Danse that got cut out, because in this analogy Danse is a spot on parallel for Mordred.

Yes, actually. There's some unused dialogue that suggests at one point you were able to convince Danse to 1v1 Maxson for leadership. No surviving code scripts to it, but it's turned on in e.g. this mod.

The "Pip boy" is actually the mascot for the computers of the same name. He had pointy ears and is dressed in yellow and red. The "Vault boy" is the mascot for Vault-Tec seen in the animations for perks and Vault-Tec marketing material.

Hoping 76 flops honestly because it'll probably make Zenimax stop making Fallout games. Can't stand the stupid poo poo they've done to the series, especially after getting a taste of how a modern Fallout would look in the hands of a studio that isn't run by people who don't seem to understand what a RPG is.

In one of the videos from the f76 retreat a YouTuber was doing a quest near the Top of the World. During this quest someone was talking to them and giving them direction on what to do and how she could see what they were doing.

One of the videos I watched had someone in the area of that place and someone seemed to be screaming at them on the radio to fix something. So my money is on there being living NPCs who are out of reach and only communicating by radio, while this tweet is promotional material serving to confuse everyone since Bethesda wants NPCs but doesn't want NPC models other than robots.

Perhaps Maxon knew someone based in West Virginia, and they respected him and had authority over others.

Maybe Maxon was in communication with a non-military group and rewarded them with codes to a military cache when they proved themselves worthy.

Maybe some people like the Brotherhood of Steel aesthetic*, and this is a good faith effort to cater to those kinds of fans. Some people just want to dress up in familiar outfits and run around the wasteland. That doesn't seem like a huge deal.

If you're not champing at the bit to find something to hate this is the most insignificant thing for a really benign end that will make some people who like familiar things happy. The crime you're railing against of shoehorning everything in for recognition was committed all the way back in Fallout 3 in a way more overt and impactful way. It's been 10 years. It might be worth getting over eventually.

*Personally, I am not one of those people. Brotherhood of Steel is lame. But getting bent out of shape at perceived slights against continuity is lamer.
