I completely agree with this.

My favorite games are MvC2, guilty gear, third strike - stick or bust here. No negotiation.

But all the direction + buttons, and general flow, of Tekken and SC just feel so much better clawing a ps paddle.

Yea, I've been trying to learn it on stick and honestly I'm just gonna swap to pad because an actual d-pad seems way better for stuff. That or get a hitbox.

I was thinking about getting a stick for Tekken 7 (and eventually SC6 and DBFZ when I get around to them) but I'm not so sure. The main thing is I just need to stop using this shitt Xbone Amazon Basics pad, it's already falling apart. I might get one of those fancy fight pads. This one has good reviews.

the newest fc4 is a good pad. make sure it looks symetrical. the older one has an adjustable dpad angle and the lock always fails and the dpad slides around on you when you are playing. you can tell this model because it only has one long grip

When I was getting into T7 I thought about playing on an FC4 when a friend mentioned he had one, but I sent it back the same day I bought it because it felt so dang cheap in my hands. The DS4 has some real heft to it, you got a real good threat to drywall in your mitts when you're clawing at it that the FC4 just misses.

Can anyone who understand how competitive tetris works explain what happens around 0:50? At a certain point in this clip Jonas just kinda stops once the game state gets to a certain point. Does he basically scoop because he's no longer able to get a tetris?

He scoops because he's in the process of cleaning up some real bad errors and makes another huge gently caress up in the process. NES Tetris is incredibly difficult to control at the higher levels because the input polling is rough and blocks drop at 2 frames per line, I think if the stack gets that high at that level and you literally can't move the blocks over far enough in time to clear anything.

Also Jonas getting swept is NUTS

EDIT: To further elaborate, Jonas was still ahead when he lost and Joseph had a very narrow window to take the lead because the game becomes unplayable at level 30. I haven't scrutinized but if he had cleared a couple more lines without a Tetris he would have lost that round.

I don’t post here often but I really don’t know where else to post this.

I bought a quanta obsidian about four months ago and it’s been great on my pc. No issues with any games.

I went to play some soul calbur last night and it worked fine for an hour or so but then the entire stick would suddenly stop being recognized by windows and would be stuck outputting the last button I pressed. I fiddled with everything, ports, drivers, cracking the thing open and checking the pcb and the issue kept happening. Finally I went into video settings and turned everything from maximum to high and turned the in-game vsync on. This seemed to solve the problem but the game still randomly slows down for a second and the sound gets wacky for a second while the controller lags.

My cpu should have no issue running this game, it’s well above the requirements but seems to randomly drop frames due to directinput or some problem with sound.

I can’t find anyone else having the same issue and although it seems to be mostly resolved, does this game have a known memory leak or something? Because it’s a little absurd and I really don’t want to buy a PS4 copy because my bigass tv isn’t lagless but my monitor is. I really don’t feel like moving the console or monitor to a separate room just to play soul cal.

E: I should really not say it stops being recognized. The led’s all function and the device still shows up in windows. I never get a driver crash message either, but it stops the stick from functioning completely even in stuff like html5gamepad.

I always wish I were more into fighting games and when I play with people irl at the arcades in Japan whenever I go visit I have a great time... but when I'm playing online every time I lose I'm just like "nah that guy is totally laughing at me right now..." and then I'm all salty.

So basically I only ever play fighting games these days when I visit the Taito Station. Wish I could get more into them, though.

Also fwiw fun fact: at the Facebook office in NYC they have a fighting game room with a Smash setup and a weekly tournament signup sheet as well as an SFV arcade machine.

Yeah, the face to face interaction really helps the experience. Sometimes you're just strangers and just won/lost and you have to scan the rows of arcade cabinets to see who just finished and they're doing the same thing and you both make eye contact and nod and it's cool

I love arcades

Canada cup is this weekend and I'm pretty pumped.

I was going to bring a setup for BBTag since it's sorta the game I'm putting the most time into this year, though I also entered Tekken and DBFZ for the heck of it. But I've never brought one before.

Last year it seemed like they had HDMI cables there, but I guess I'd have to bring both my PS4 and my power cord? Anything I should be wary of when bringing a setup to a large event like this?

Watching DBFZ streams made me want to finally pull the trigger on getting a new console and get into fighting games again, and drat this game is fun. I can see why some older players have gripes with it, but I feel like it has a perfect mix of being accessible while having a lot of cool poo poo to learn.

Also having a PS4 is cooler in general than I thought it would be.

It's fun to be pedantic so I'll say they don't have an SFV arcade machine bc they don't exist yet. Even though the actual sfv arcade machines are just putting a computer in a cabinet anyway

If I put myself in the correct mindset beforehand ("I just started learning the character, why would I win? It's okay to lose. Just try to get off that counter hit combo under pressure and call that a win.") I can enjoy playing fighting games online. If I forget I can get violently angry. If someone recorded me it'd get at least 500k views.

What?

I'm fine losing repeatedly offline because it's all usually in good fun but if I go on a big losing streak online I have to take a step back and stop playing for a bit. I just get more and more frustrated and start playing worse which just leads to more losses. Making myself switch games while I get over it or go mess around in training mode really helps.

SF5's input lag patch is out - it's around a frame faster and significantly more stable but still not great:
https://twitter.com/WydD/status/1054804594730196992

That puts it within the realm of game like FEXL and most of the SF30th games in terms of responsiveness. For the record, Koihime Enbu is by far the most responsive fighting game on the market right now and SC6 is the worst - input lag is a fraction worse than pre-patch SF5 and the stability's about where SF5 is now.
