The true aspect of "Your Choices Don't matter" will be fighting with the aspects that want to tell you how the best way to play the game and even in what possible order to experience the game in, whether its a Flowie Genocide Runner or Ralsei crying about how many feelings you'll hurt if you don't spare everyone in a specific way.

I mean, the last thing Ralsei does is apologize for the naivete that directly lead to King getting back up again, then conclude that maybe sometimes the group will need to do a bit of fighting. So while Ralsei's contradicting of that theme is important, I think it serves as a kinder counterpart to Flowey's KILL OR BE KILLED: an incorrect (or at least, incorrect from a certain point of view) statement by a guide character.

Either that, or the thematic goal of the game will be pushing past your teenage listlessness and realizing that, even if you don't have agency in every choice, those small choices you can make are all the more important.

How to Save a Soul is pretty good too in my opinion (mostly because it actually portrays Frisk and Chara as fallible human beings rather than being explicitly good or evil). There's some decent stuff that's come out of the Undertale fandom but there's a lot of crap as well.

Yeah, I believe the blog post implied that the remaining chapters were going to get released all at once so we could be waiting a while. 2020 at the earliest is still my best guess, maybe sooner depending on how things go regarding getting a good team together to work on it.

Toby FOx has enough good will and love for the franchise built up that he could have so many talented people working for him for free that he just says what he wants and it's done in less than a day

WE ARE SMART
I have no doubt Toby will be able to put together a good team. His reputation is sterling and there are tons of talented people who'd absolutely love to work with him. He's probably made something in the low 8-digit range from Undertale sales so assuming he's been somewhat responsible with his money and is willing to reinvest it in Deltarune, finances shouldn't be an issue.

The game itself contradicts this by giving you different endings in the dark world depending on how you treat people. In both endings the "main ending" (you going home) is the same, but you can either leave things peaceful and happy with the king safely in jail, or with the kingdom in chaos and the king likely to wake up at anytime and start kicking his son's rear end again. Those are pretty big differences that can be made via your choices.

That Phrase keeps happening! What am I not supposed to forget? Who is with me in the dark? These next seven years are going to be agony.

Does anyone else find the phrase "Don't forget, I'm with you in the dark" kind of creepy and ominous? Like, who's with me in the dark? Someone nice? Or someone who wants to hurt me?

My tinfoil is that the song is sung by the player, to Kris. No matter what, you'll be there with 'em.

Yeah, it's a good song. I'm hoping there's a longer version at the end of the full game. Also considering most of the Dark World stuff seemed to get resolved at the end of Chapter 1 I honestly have no idea where the plot is going to go from here but I look forward to finding out (hopefully Susie still remains a mainstay in the story going forward as she's arguably more of a main character than Kris is right now).

The phrase by itself is a little ambiguous, but the credits song puts it in a context that's hard to read as negative, unless you're really willing to stretch your interpretation of the song's other lines.

"There's a light inside your soul" (a light of evil!)

"The promise in our hearts" (a promise of murder!)

That having been said, the music does manage to use it in ways that come off as threatening once you know what those notes "mean." The Jevil theme, in particular, has a section that's just "I'm with you in the dark, I'm with you in the dark, I'm with you in the dark"

I mean, if he actually wants to go hard on the "choices don't matter" theme, I imagine the way to do that is to have it be that destroying the dark fountain destroyed the card kingdom anyway, and so it doesn't matter what state it had been left in. That's kind of my own theory for how things are gonna go. Ralsei's manual is dedicated to "the unending pillar of darkness which gives my body form", Ralsei says he's waited alone for his entire life for you to show up and Ralsei's kingdom appears to be small, creepy, fake and completely unpopulated. Everything in the legend about the dark prince applies to Lancer as much as it does Ralsei. Ralsei is a counterpart to Asriel, someone who was very sympathetic and by all accounts a very nice person(when he was a person) but was also the overall villain of the game. One of the last things Ralsei says is about how he's come around to the idea of fighting being necessary sometimes. All this, to me, adds up to: Ralsei ends up as a villain, the choice didn't matter because the Card Kingdom was destroyed with the pillar.

Is it resolved?

The other kings are still imprisoned, we didn’t see what happened to the second fountain, a child that is mostly disliked is now on the throne, etc.

True, also despite what the prophecy said Ralsei wasn't with Kris and Susie when they reached the fountain (though then again it also said the event would happen at the end of the world so it's possible that particular plot point simply hasn't come to pass just yet).

No, there's the 'I'm with you in the dark' sound bite, that gets repeated like 5-8 times after the main chorus. (I don't know musical lingo, but it's there)

I wish I could enjoy the game respectfully but my desire to meme is so strong, with the Jevil's out of place and amazing lines. Metamophasis!

Total conjecture on what will happen in chapter 2 of the main game, but fun to imagine:

Kris and Susie return to the dark world, to find it exactly the same as they found it the first time. Lancer attacks them, Ralsei is waiting for them so they can fulful the prophecy and save the world, no one remembers them and generally none of what happened in chapter 1 has happened. In that way, your choices did not matter, no matter how it ended. Then Kris and Susie might end up taking different routes, and different approaches through the dark world to find out what's really going on. I don't know if it's anything close to what Toby has planned, but that could make for a pretty good story. And a good way to explore the themes of Undertale more.
