VMP is having a sale of up to 40% off select titles. Picked up a few ones I was looking at, but the site went down almost as soon as the sale started and by the time I was able to get in RAM was already sold out again. Would have been a good deal too.

God drat The Unconquerable Dark is a good album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97IO2GTwyiI Wasn’t expecting it until December, so very happy to get it today. And the Symmetry album came as well, so I’ve been subjecting myself to one hell of a genre warp here. That one is really neat too, though I think I can see why it wasn’t used for the film. E: turns out both were original pressings! Yeah. I was looking to grab a few things but it was a poo poo show. Once the dust settled the Axelrod, Tom Waits, and Psychedelic Cumbia albums were all gone. Managed to pick up Ghetto Brothers, Shina Williams, and Ofege records for ok prices. Nothing mind blowing but slightly less than they are going for on discogs. Their sales are always kinda crappy. Most of the good stuff is gone in minutes and will disappear in the time it takes to go from your cart to checkout.

I had Lightnin’ Slim’s Rooster Blues in my cart but i got an error any time I tried checking out. By the time it actually worked again, Rooster Blues was sold out. I did end up picking up Ofege, the Charlie Rouse Blue Note that’s been in their store since forever, a Max Roach album that sold out about two minutes after I bought it, and Jazzmatazz II, another out of print VMP release that came back in the store for all of 15 minutes. So while I’m bummed about missing Rooster, I really can’t complain much. Edit: if y’all haven’t already gotten it, Lafayette Afro Rock Band’s “Malik” is only $14. Absolutely worth it. They just had a 20% sale last week, not sure if they are doing a Black Friday sale. Picked up Ironman by Ghostface Killah and The Beatnuts' "Street Level" for only about $30 total. The shipping sucks but I wasn't going to find those albums for less anywhere else. Also, pretty sure Jackpot Records still has this for sale (regular black vinyl) priced at 15.99 and I believe the shipping is reasonable.

Yeah getting it from Newbury is solely for the splatter. Record is still just as good in standard black. One other thing to consider is Newbury’s pressing is only 300 so I’m not sure how long it’ll stick around for.

The Newbury Comics exclusive versions are a bit more expensive than the standard pressings. I avoid them because I've gotten a few that were not great pressings. In particular I picked up two copies John Carpenter's Lost Themes II that had a serious pressing defect and after returning to the store twice I just asked for a refund and went and bought the album from the Sacred Bones website instead. I think I even saved a few dollars. I really only bought it from Newbury Comics because I didn't mind paying a bit extra to have it that day.
