You're on the right track - Debbie Harry invited the guy who was playing the song when what would become Rapper's Delight was first perform. The backstory's on wikipedia but it's silly to give her credit in that story instead of you know, the guys who started rapping.

Buster Scruggs is good so far but I'm surprised by the casting of James Franco, I thought we'd done away with him at this point. I like him as an actor, too bad he's a total shitbird. Me, watching a movie where Jud Nelson compares his plight to poor people of color subjected to a racist exploitative capitalist society while listening to an album where a middle class white guy raps about torturing and murdering the women in his life: "Man, this is too real..."

White rappers, on the high end, are just as great as the non white great rappers. But when they aren’t great they are much more on the lower end compared to their non white counterparts. I feel blessed I can share my terrible rap opinions

I really want too. I’ve been listening to their new album and I dug it so far. It’s basically the movie as a radio play I think. But it’s quite fun. My brother and I are considering making a trip out to Vegas for the night they’re playing. Which would be rad but who knows.

Nah, "Rapture" by Blondie was the first song with rapping (which I would distinguish from an actual "rap song") that was a number-one hit on the singles charts, not the first rap song. As was mentioned above, "Rapper's Delight" predated it, as did others.
