One thing that does set game apart from a lot of other types of product is they don't really "wear out" like a car, fridge, or other thing would. You can always go back and play a game you own for a very long time so there is severe diminishing returns over time if players are already satisfied with the games they currently have.

this is definitely a thing, and why we get repackaged HD remixes so often, hell, i'm guilty of buying all the PSX/PS2 era Steam re-releases of the Final Fantasy series, for HD textures and graphics and whatever bonuses, mostly because of the nostalgia factor.

the most interesting games to me that get me to pop off and buy are ones that mix interesting genres in especially well done ways, like Wizard of Legend (which is kind of an Isaac clone, but which blended bullet hell and rogue-lite), also Slay The Spire (card deck building + RPG battling)

Alright, you loving cowards, you goddamn casuals, let's talk about the real C-SPAM games for real revolutionaries. No spineless liberals need apply.

If you loving cowards didn't grow up fighting off a foreign invasion in Operation Flashpoint: Resistance then quite frankly, you don't stand a goddamn chance leading a violent revolution against these capitalist dogs lording over our wage slavery. OF:R was the first exposure many young American socialists had with managing a small arms guerilla campaign against an industrial overlord, dealing with OSP (On-Site Procurement) and ensuring there were enough RPG-7 rounds to deal with whatever armored fighting vehicle horde was thrown your way in the next engagement. If you couldn't save Nogova, how the gently caress do you plan to save America?

Now, maybe you survived Nogova. Maybe you even liberated your native land from the invaders. But that was 2002. Did you learn of the feminist contributions to fight back the fascist menace? More specifically, have you paid tribute to the Night Witches that beat back the fascist scourge? How many fascist pigs have all-women flight crews in nothing but biplanes slaughtered from the unholy skies? Can you even guesstimate such a number? How can you know where we as a violent revolution are going if you have no clue where our revolution has been, you loving broshevik?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU4e50fERiY

Alright, alright, maybe you're too much of an economic girly-man to handle cutting the engine of a biplane in mid-air so you can give the fash their due-diligence. You loving coward. You need something with a little more protection. I understand, we can't all step up to the big leagues on our first outing against the fash, even in a simulation. Okay, okay. Let's give you something a little more comfortable. You have to remember, there was a time before man was jetting across the ocean in 5 or 6 hour sprints. The air wars weren't won with AMRAAMS shot off from several miles away, you had to get right up in a fascists' rear end in a top hat and drop several bursts of .50 caliber lead to make them eat poo poo across blood-soaked snow. You ever wonder why the Alt-Right is always so pissy about Snowflakes? It reminds them of the Eastern Front. It reminds them of the shortcomings of their infamous Luftwaffe. How superior Soviet engineering showed them their rear end. The great terror every Wehraboo is too afraid to confront. That is, ladies and gentlemen, why your second job after wasting away from 9-6 should be strapped into a HOTAS and a VR headset realizing the nightmares your antifa ancestors realized in the air in IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow/Kuban.

You'll learn how to fly. How to kill. How to manage your prop mixture. How to land a giant steel beast of murder upon a dirt runway in the hopes of flying again to fight the fash. How do you expect to dismantle a white supremacist superstructure if you can't even handle the simulation of a steel aerial antifa beast arisen for the sole purpose of obliterating fascists? Okay, okay. Maybe the freedom of the air is too much for your tiny crapitalist brain to comprehend. Fine, fine. Then let us settle for a simulation of the hardware of one of the greatest militaries in the world, the Soviet Union, set to one of your favorite audible tracks of crapitalist propaganda.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JfRy9DKL-k

Small arms tactics, combined arms operations, and mechanized assaults are all something you'll grow an understanding of with Armed Assault 3 and the RHS modification(s.) Considering all realities of the modern geopolitical hellscape, you'll probably have to grow familiar with the various arms platforms from overseas manufacturers, i.e. the Автома́т Кала́шникова - but you never know! The most important thing is to understand a few basic principles - 1) cover is not concealment. 2) you take the safety off, you cycle a round in the chamber, you aim down the sights at your target, and then, finally, you pull the trigger. Never point a gun at something you don't intend to destroy. Sound easy enough? Well, it's honestly a lot harder than it seems. How many fascists do you plan to kill for this revolution? How many fascists do you plan to watch bleed out and beg for mercy as a part of this revolution? Are you going to be the Bear Jew of your Antifa family, or are you going to be the Micah Bell of your family? You need to decide now, because we don't have time to waste anymore. Whether it's wildfires on the West Coast, or apocalyptic hurricanes on the East Coast, there ain't nobody saving us but ourselves.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCxqydj1FBo

Regardless of how you see yourself, regardless of how you understand history, understand the thread of history loving thirsts for the blood of fascists. On the ground, in the sky, maybe even under the loving sea. We are on our loving own, and there is no lord God to save us. Grow intimate with whatever machines are around you, and learn to see them as nothing more than extensions of your own limbs. As global warming prepares to wipe all of humanity from the very Earth itself, there is no guilt in making the Fascist suffer and beg for the very humanity they have denied the rest of us.

So I'm still playing Fallout 76 out of morbid curiosity and came across the MG42. Apparently it spawns into the loot pool as a generic "light machinegun," even though the light machinegun in previous games has been an M60 variant. So it's a purely aesthetic choice that contradicts established lore. :thunk:

I think the demand for a plot by publishers is dragging a lot of open-world games down, your actions outside the plot do not transfer very well to the plot unless they limit the amount of stuff you can do.

Especially if they're as nondescript centrist or downright baffling as we've been discussing in this thread.
