I guess people who frequented the beer hall where Hitler and other nazis organised their putsch, could have just gone to a different pub instead of complaining about nazis taking over their favourite place.
Except in this case the owner of the beer hall is just watching Hitler's clique from distance. Hell, some staff is even joining in and the owner is still just standing there, onlooking.

And yeah, instead of getting up and setting up their own place some patrons just complain endlessly to the staff (or anyone who will listen, really). For some reason they think other people are gonna solve their problems for them. Some of them leave, never to return again, but it doesn't matter cause there's lots of new faces every day.

And in the end, most patrons do not seem to care (which pretty much equals to not caring anyways).

The intelligent man turns on his TV and sees a report on the war in Yemen. "There are not actually tiny men fighting and dying inside this box, it is an illusion. Some cannot accept this hard reality." he nods to himself. "It is pointless to waste time on discussing men fighting elsewhere, because war has not been solved". Going outside, he walks up to a crossing sign. "This doesn't actually make me stop when there's traffic, it's just a light", he beams to his imagined audience, and steps into the road.

You can't just ignore a community that preys on young impressionable people, especially white men, when it's part of the same network of online communities that produce the largest proportion of domestic terrorists in the US.

I'm not saying we need to police the internet. But if a solution exists, I'm sure it's not going to come from the side of the aisle that set up the current administration.

All I can do is nod and agree because we don't seem to disagree that doxxing is lovely. The question is, what do you propose to do about it beyond posting on one forum about how another forum is bad. Doxxing won't go away because you ousted some Nazi wannabes from a lovely japanese image board. The image board was always lovely to begin with. So either post there and be a part of the shitshow and its various flavors of poo poo. Or don't.

Hey idiot, actually the doxxing from 4chan will go away if you remove the forum where they openly talk about it and it's a part of their culture from the website.

edit: If they flock to another community that participates in it then whatever, but that'd be one less place for them to gather.

Talking with people who "just... can't" with the /pol/-posting is really funny. I wonder what you guys are like when you step in poo poo. Like it's okay just wipe off the racism/poo poo and keep going/posting your shoe won't be lovely forever.

If there's just too much poo poo in the air then don't go there anymore but it's awfully suspicious to hear people reminiscing about how much better it when they were flinging their brand of poo poo in a place that has always had poo poo on the walls.

4chan was always some degree of lovely, but not the particular sort of /pol/ shittery that's around now. I don't post that often there any more precisely because of that particular brand of shittiness and at the concentrations it occurs in in non-/pol/ or /int/ boards. There was definitely a difference despite your apprehension otherwise.

Like, I remember when Bush was in office where people would play Communist Tankie to get a rise out of people alongside people doing the same with casual racism. There was a sort of shittiness that resembled SA's own early years of being poo poo lords that isn't the same now in either site.

When was doxxing not malicious? Helldump-style digging up somebody's furry inflation vore account under the same username for laughs ok maybe that's just a mean forums burn but turning up details of peoples' actual lives and contact information has always, always been understood to be exclusively for the purposes of harassing them, and banned everywhere else for that reason.

Prav posted:

whatever antisocial behavior 4chan may have originally popularized, that horse is definitely out of the barn and on literally every other social media platform now. It's still an effective place for alt-right trolls to coordinate efforts without worrying anyone's going to do anything to stop them and probably belongs shut down on those grounds, but its time as a big cultural driver has been and gone and everybody on 4chan is also using Twitter and Tumblr and whatever else interchangeably.

Nah, they totally went against people they didn't like. Harassing DeviantArt weirdos was definitely a thing. I wanna say Chris-chan was part of the old wave of loving with those sorts and his particular response spiraled into what it is now.

Part of the reason it died down a little on 4chan though was because m00t banned any sort of "invasion" stuff and a lot of people moved to 7chan's /i/nvasion board to coordinate there instead.

I never said they didn't go against people they didn't like. I just said it wasn't always doxxing for shitlord reasons and a lot of the time they doxx'd people anyone would consider bad. /pol/ turned it way worse. My point was just that the raids were more varied than what people think of them as, especially now.

i mean poo poo there was that couple years where 4ch was rallyin hard against scientology rather than just harrassing people they found cringeworthy

the CWC stuff was waaaay beyond just being a 4chan thing. there was an irc channel (hell may still be) just dedicated to coming up with ways to ruse him and they weren't all people from 4ch, prob a lot of goons there too

There were definitely plenty of people who didn't deserve it getting poo poo on a decade ago but it was more... one or two people at a time every creep in the community would gangstalk at once? Versus now when it's more accepted that it's gonna happen to anyone who spends meaningful time online without locking their personal info down hard enough.

The Chanology stuff peaked around 2008 with the first protest and then slowly petered out over the next year iirc. ED was still ostensibly a wiki for LJ and other web drama and memes at the time. But there was still pushes to harass people online they found cringeworthy. It wasn't any sort of either/or thing. It was always about trolling people and getting a rise. Even for noble purposes and against people that probably deserved it, it was always about that. It was always about the lulz.

I can probably name a few more examples that I can remember like Alex Wuori and the An Hero kid as trolling that extended irl that 4chan did and/or spearheaded. Idk who spearheaded the CWC stuff fwiw.

But with regards to being varied, but I'd argue that being varied at all is the qualifier rather than more varied at this point.

Doxxing has been a regular thing since the 90s, you just didn't hear about it as much then. I was net.detective'd back in '98 for patching an exploit in a MUD, which nerfed the characters of those who had exploited it. Some clever monkey figured out where I worked and called my boss to report I had child porn on my work computer. When that didn't work out the way he wanted he started ddosing my employer, saying he would not stop until he saw an obituary in my local paper saying I committed suicide and left a note outing myself as a pedophile and a homosexual. Unfortunately for him all his traffic had a constant source port and came from the IP addresses of the college he attended, so our upstream ISP just blocked the traffic at their border while we contacted the college. No idea what happened to him after that but he wasn't heard from again.

Doesn't seem like it's being ignored at all based on the screeching and wailing about it I hear in the GBS forums everytime someone even mentions 4chan. It's also not being ignored on the 4chan forums themselves either. As I said, plenty of people just go "shut up you retard Nazi" and go on about their discussion. That is the proper way to handle discourse you dislike if the theme of where your posting is unrestricted speech. Obviously, SA is not 4chan so I don't expect SA to have the same level of hands-off-edness but that's kind of the appeal of posting and having discussions in different places.

I also don't buy the "young white men being indoctrinated by nazi's on 4chan meme" anymore than I buy rap being responsible for increased crime rates in black youths. That's just pearl-clutching at its finest. Let be out what will be out there (barring clearly illegal poo poo like CP) and the populace will make its own decisions wrt that content.

There's nothing conclusive, but remember that the QAnon poo poo started in /pol/ and it's spun into its own conspiracy subculture. The populace there decided and thought that it was good. Surprise!

It's not a matter of indoctrination either, it's pushing people who already have a predilection to those sorts of ideas and filling in the void with Right Wing propaganda. These are the same types of people who end up batting for ISIS. It's a demographic of young males whose lives aren't going quite they way they think it should be going and looking for any sort of answer that fits the mold. First is blaming the SJWs for making them unpopular with women and then it's blaming the Jews for why they're not wealthy. You're woefully naive to think that's it's just pear clutching, but it's not as though you could throw a random person in to /pol/ and they'll come out a Nazi. It's the conflux of people with that sort of predilection and given answers of that political bent that are convenient. They likely already leaned that way, but not at any sort of extreme. Hell, they might've turned into buttcoiners instead if there were on some other site.

Let it all burn. Like that anon I quoted, the type of social outcasts and rejects that used to populate 4chan (and the internet in general) no longer exist, so even if you removed /pol/ and somehow kept the /pol/tards at bay it would eventually peter out quite quickly.
